Hi, Continuing my research for parents of my gr gr gr gr grandfather, Nathaniel Brown b 1794 or thereabouts in (according to subsequent census') RI., died after 1860, prob in Jennings Co, In. Married Eleathea Crocker, d/o Andrew Crocker and Anna Leland, in Western or Central Ny (Erie or Genesee Co, perhaps). Assumed he is a part of the Chad Brown line but can't prove. His parents presumably left RI after the Rev War and made a beeline across NY State in early 1800's. Possibly also in Herkimer, Genesee counties. Noted first in 1820 census in Concord/Sardinia, Erie, NY. Also noted in Holland Land transaction records next to a Heman Brown buying land in area of Concord in southern Erie Co in 1815. Also noted in close prox to a James and John Brown in Erie census. Noted next in Mc Kean, Erie Pa where Nathaniel bought land from the BOWN family of NY. All of his children were born by this time, URSULA 1818, JULIA ANN, 1820, ELEATHEA 1823, WILLIAM W. 1826 and JOSEPH 1829. All but Joseph were born in Erie Co NY. >From there it was on to Parkman, Geauga, Oh after 1833 until about 1844 or so. Then it was Geneva, Jennings Co, In around a year later where Eleathea died. He remarried the following year (1846) to a Lydia Griffith in Jennings Co. Lydia was born in Va around 1800 and had a daughter, Katherine from a previous marriage. Below is info on Nathaniels children and their spouses. Ursula married Nathaniel Reddout in Geauga Co, Oh in 1838. Children were Julia Marie b 1839 and William M Reddout and possible a third (Henry?). It's possible Ursula died shortly after that since Nathaniel remarried not long after his children from Ursula were born. He is noted with new wife in Jennings Co, IN, so quite possible she died shortly after arriving there as did her mother, Eleathea did in 1845. Julia Ann Brown married in 1837 in Geauga Co, Oh. She married Robert Dunn b 1807 in McKean, Pa, son of Thomas and Rachel Dunn from Tyrone Co, Ireland. Never had children of their own but adopted 3 of 5 of Robert's brother John's children (James B, Elivina and Marvin Dunn). It also appears they adopted 2 of Ursula's children as well after she died (Julia M Reddout and William M Reddout). Julia died in 1905 in Warren Co, Illinois in Lenox township. Julia Reddout married C J Curtis and Philip L Stuart. Eleathea Brown b 1822 Erie, NY d 1823. Other families associated with this particular line are MEEK, BESTON, HICKMAN, CURTIS, NICHOLS. William W Brown married Elizabeth Scott in 1860 in Clark, Indiana. Nothing more is known of this family. Joseph Brown, b 1829 McKean, Erie, Pa, my 3 rd gr grandfather married Rachel Ann Wilcox in Jennings, In in 1850, d/o William Wilcox of NY and Beulah Ewan of the NJ Ewan/Ewins. She(Rachel) was born in 1832, prob in Muskingum Co, Oh in Zanesville, where her father and brother, Charles are noted there buying land. Initially, it is presumed that this family went to Tennesee for a few years before catching up with the rest of the family in Warren Co, Illinois around 1855 or thereabouts. They had a son, William N Brown b 1854 in Tn, Julia Ann b 1856 in Monmouth Co and Clark Brown b 1858 in Monmouth Co, Il. Julia married Samuel Martin Smith in Monmouth Co, Il in 1874. Clark married a Jenis in Monmouth Co, Il and had a son, Joseph Brown. William married a woman named Ella in Illinois and had Ora (married Mary Alma Gilkeson of Indiana) and Ellie who died before her 4th birthday. While Julia Ann Dunn and her adopted clan stayed in Illinois, Joseph, Rachel, William N, Julia Ann and Clark and their families moved onto Iowa, settling in Taylor Co in the towns of Platte and Lenox, where Joseph was the town Marshal in 1880. Ella died shortly after their arrival in Iowa. >From there, this troupe move down to Oklahoma for the land rush of 1894 where they finally settled on lands in Kay County, Tonkawa, Ok. William N Brown remarried in 1900 to Pearl West, d/o Onjesby Payton West and Mary Elizabeth Sailor. They had Roy in 1902 and twins Donald Ray Brown (my grandfather) and Dorthy Brown in 1912. Donald Ray married first, Genevieve Morrison, d/o Thomas Morrison and Katherine Breslin in which they had my father Donald Reed Brown b 1938 in Ada, Ok who married Sandra Hall Peckham who has been traced back to the original John Peckham b 1595 of the Winthrop Fleet. if anyone has any knowlege of this Brown clan your response would be greatly appreciated.
