Need a little help here. I received a death certificate for Rachel Conner, widow of Willoughby Conner, who died in Indianapolis on 10 Feb 1882. Her father was listed as being Cornelius Johnson. Her mother's name was not listed. Her birthplace was Clark Co., OH. Rachel and Willoughby, with his father, Philip Conner, a Rev. War vet, moved to Jennings Co. in 1820 from Hamilton Co., OH. Their five younger sons all served in the Civil War. Four of those sons became newspapermen and started bought, sold, and ran newspapers all over Indiana. Two sons-in-law, John French and Richard Randall, were also newspapermen. Richard Conner also is listed in the 1870 census for Vernon as a County Auditor. The Plain Dealer and Banner were papers that were owned at one time or another by Allen S. Conner, Richard A. Conner, and John B. Conner. I don't know who owned them at the time of Rachel's death. Can someone tell me if there was an obituary for Rachel Conner in the Plain Dealer/Banner? There was a big one for Willoughby when he died in 1864. I'm hoping to find out more about her mother and her early life. Thanks for any help you can give. Dori Bruns
