Jennings Co listers, I'm sorry I was not more specific about the abstracted court records books of Maurice Holmes. I prepared the list as a service for the Shelby Co IN mail list group and then at the last minute, realized there might be others that would be interested. In the process of working on his own family research, Mr. Holmes did a lot of work at surrounding Indiana county courthouses. During that time, he abstracted information from probate order books, common pleas volumes, complete record books, etc. Mr. Holmes' books are no longer in print. Shelby Co IN researchers have been asking me for over two years (I started the Shelby Co website Apr 1999) about getting copies of the Shelby Co and Decatur Co court records abstracted by Mr. Holmes. This need became even more acute when renovations to our courthouse closed off the vault (until Aug 2002!!!). To that end, I finally persuaded Mr. Holmes to make a list of the books he had at home in his personal library. We have taken these to a local franchise quick-print and have been given a quote on copying and collating them into plastic-spiral-bound books. The Shelby Co website has a list of the books. This list can be printed and used as an order form, if you are interested in any of the collections. Those of you who live out-of-state or, as in my case, are unable to travel even a few counties away, understand the frustration not being able to get to the local courthouse for research. The list of books, including a very brief description and Mr. Holmes' address are here: http://www.rootsweb.com/~inshelby/books_holmes.htm If you have further questions, please feel free to contact me.
