IN Obituaries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs//genbbs.cgi/USA/In/JenningsObits/270 Surname: Clerkin, Murray ------------------------- He was the son of Michael and Rosanna Clerkin, and was the oldest of a family of 13 children, consisting of 6 sons and 7 daughters. He was married in 1885 to Mary A. Murray and to them were born 12 children 7 sons and 5 daughters 10 of whom grew to manhood and womanhood. He came to Jennings county with his parents when a small boy and the parents settled on a farm in Campbell Township about one mile Northeast of Butlerville on the same farm where the parents lived until their death. There he grew to manhood. As a young man he taught school, worked on the section in saw mills, on the farm during summer seasons and later took up farming for his occupation. He had thus been a continuous resident of Campbell Township Jennings County, for nearly 80 years. He was a man of strong conviction and took an active interest in the affairs of not only his immediate neighborhood but of his Township, County, State and Nation. He was a lifelong Democrat. He served as Democrat, precinct comittteeman continuously, from Campbell Township for 50 years, and was so serving at the time of his death. He had attended every Democratic County convention in Jennings County since the Civil War. He had been failing for the past few months but he would not give up to go to bed until the evening before his death. He was buried Thursday morning September 21st in St. Mary's Cemetery in North Vernon, by the side of his wife, whose death preceeded his only a little more that 2 years.
