He was very deaf and did not hear the approach of the train. Coroner Hicks held an inquest and rendered a verdict absolving the engineer from blame. 5-21-1890

Silas had not been very stout since he had measles last Spring and his disease was so complicated that it was hardly possible to tell what his real malady was. His funeral was preached in the M. E. Church last Friday by Rev. C. E. Line of North Vernon, after which the remains were taken to Mutton Creek and deposited in the Oak Grove Cemetery. (Hardenburg 1-15-1890)

IN Obituaries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs//genbbs.cgi/USA/In/JenningsObits/10307 Surname: JOHNSON, MCCASLIN, LATTIMORE, TURNER ------------------------- Jacob Johnson was born in Stark County, Ohio May 24, 1827; came to Indiana in 1857 and was married to Minerva C. McCaslin December 15, 1859. Their union was blessed with two children, both of whom died in infancy. His companion was taken from him by death April 2, 1863. He was then married to Jemima Lattimore, September 29, 1870 and was united with the Hopewell M. E. Church during the same year. Since that time he has lived a consistent Christian life. Mr. Johnson has been a resident of Jennings and Jefferson counties for 33 years, during which time he has been a prominent and substantial citizen and well liked by his neighbors. On January 10, 1890, after ten days of severe suffering, he passed away at the age of 62 years, seven months, sixteen days. He was a kind husband and a devoted Christian. He was waited upon by two excellent physicians and had the best of care, but all was in vain...The remains were interred in the Graham Cemetery on January 11...He leaves a wife and a host of friends to mourn his loss. 1-15-1890 Rev. I. Turner preached the funeral of Jacob Johnson at Hopewell Chruch last Sunday. Burial at Graham Presbyterian Church Cemetery. 2-5-1890
