One of our Shelber's, Antoinette Waughtel Sorensen, is part of an on-going "newspaper" project in Jennings Co, IN. With the 1890 census missing, she and a friend decided that the newspapers could help replace the void of names and dates. You can see their work here: http://www.newspaperabstracts.com/IN/Jennings/index.html Antoinette offered to do the same for our site. However, I am not currently keeping up with the 1910 census copiers, so this is just a "back burner" project at this point. P
Hi everyone, I just saw that all of the newspapers that Antoinette and I worked on are finally posted at the newspaper abstract site. If you missed any of them, you can now check them out at: http://www.newspaperabstracts.com/IN/Jennings/index.html Also, because I got my newspaper early (due to the holiday), I forgot to send out a message to check the 100 Years Ago today column. My internet is acting up today so I can't tell if the column is there or not. But the directions to get there are: go to http://www.northvernon.com. Click on Local News on the side menu. Then scroll down to find the 100 Years Ago Today columns. Terry

My great great grandfather, Thomas Fall came to Jennings County in about 1860 with wife Jean or Jane, and two sons;Henry and William and possibly a daughter, Helen. Two more children were born there: Alexander and Ruth. I believe William was a dotor but I also have a letterhead stating he was president of the First National Bank. Subject: [BROWN] Nathaniel and Beriah Brown 1815 Holland Land Transaction, Erie NY Date: Fri, 25 May 2001 01:41:11 EDT From: Bluesriff7@aol.com To: BROWN-L@rootsweb.com Hi listers, Continue my long awaited discovery of my Nathaniel Brown's parents. Might have found a clue and need some assistance. Nathaniel b 1794 in RI (this according to subsequent census records) is first noted in Sardinia, Erie NY in 1820 with wife, Eleathea Crocker Brown b 1797 in Clarendon, Rutland, VT, d/o Andrew Crowcker b 1775 Clarendon, VT and Anna Leland. Also listed wer first of five children, Ursula b 1818, probably in Sardinia, NY. What is missing is info on Nathaniel between his birth in RI and his parents, up to the time he is on the 1820 Erie, NY census. BUT WAIT...I've found a clue that might help solve my Brown brick wall. I believe it is this Nathaniel that is listed with a BERIAH BROWN (next to, I should say), in Holland Land Records(same date and location,.."Were they buying the same land together?"). Now this Beriah is most probably from the Beriah Brown of MA/RI line. (the "other" RI Line). A large portion of this line, to include a few Beriah's wound up in Genesee Co in early 19th century. And, there are a lot of Nathaniels in this line, as well as Julia Ann's, William's and Joseph's which were all children of Nathaniel and Eleathea. Now Nathaniel would have been just about 21 at the time of this purchase. First, can anyone identify with this Brown family and make a connection to Nathaniel and second, can anyone from this Beriah line ID this Beriah who purchased land with this Nathaniel and if so, could he be his father. The remainder of my line is below, which you all probably know from memory, seeing how I've posted a few times. My main Brown line begins with Nathanial BROWN b 1794? RI? married Eleathea Crocker, d/o Andrew and Anna LELAND CROCKER, around 1818 in Erie or Genesee Co, NY They had Ursula b 1818, Julia Ann b 1820, Eleathea b 1822 d 1823, William W b 1824 and my gr gr grandfather, Joseph b 1829 in McKean, Erie, Pa, married Rachel Ann Wilcox in Jennings Co, Geneva Township, IN. in 1850. They left IN sometime after that and had William N in TN? or IN in 1854, Julia Ann b 1856 in Warren Co Il. and Clark b 1858, also in Warren Co, Il. William N, my gr grandfather married first, Ella? and had Ora m Gilkeson and Lillie who died early, both believed b in Taylor Co, Ia, wound up at the land rush in OK territories around mid to late 1890's and remarried Pearl West b Mo 1880, d/o Ongesby Peyton West b 1832 KY and Mary Elizabeth Sailor b 1852 in IN, parents from KY. William and Pearl Brown lived in Kay Co, Tonkawa, OK and had Roy in 1902 and twins Donald and Dorothy in 1907. Donald married first Genevieve Morrison b Oct 8 1914 in Ft Smith Ark, d/o Thomas James Ferrill Morrison of Long Beach and Katherine (Kate) Breslin b St Louis. Had Donald Reed Brown b 1938 Ada OK. Don remarried Juanita Carson and had Lisa Brown of Dallas. Don Brown married Sandra Hall Peckham of the "original" John Peckham of RI fame. Appreciate any help. Donna, What names are you looking for? I'll take a look in my paper. I'm not sure why it isn't on their page. Terry On Thursday 24 May 2001 20:34, Tom or Donna wrote: > Hey, what happened this week. If anyone wants to get a copy of a will in Jennings Co., I would first see if there is a volunteer who will do look-ups in Jennings Co. You can find them at http://raogk.rootsweb.com/ ,or look in Cyndi's List for volunteer look-ups. The actual will itself would be impossible to copy, they are in books that are about 30" X 20" and weigh about 20 lbs.!! No kidding! I know there is an index of wills in the Jennings Co. library that lists the main parts of the will. If you wanted the whole will, it would have to be transcribed by hand. Hope this helps someone. -Cindy ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Juno offers FREE or PREMIUM Internet access for less! Join Juno today! I have received a marriage from Jennings Co. for 1838. But I would write and send SASE. They do not have the time to do these things for Family History Buffs. Trying to get a will is really impossible. Here is an address but I'm not sure it's right. Clerk of The Jennings Co. Circuit Court, P.O. Box 385, Vernon, In. 47282

I am trying to get the marriage application for ALBERT R. FOSTER and MARY SULLIVAN. I have contacted the county clerks office in Vernon, IN. and was told by one person that she would send me a copy of the application, which I had given her the book and page number that it was indexed in. I asked how much it was and was told it cost nothing to get the copy and she would send it out right away, that was over a month ago and I haven't received anything. I called again and was told by someone else, they did not do anything with genealogy or get copies of the applications. Does anyone have any suggestions how I can get a copy of the marriage application. Thank you for any help you can give me, it will be greatly appreciated and will help to stop me from pulling out my hair on this little problem. Thanks again, Carol Foster
