I am looking to find more information about where my STEIN and EFFINGER families came from. Where were Sebastian and Catherine before they were married? Did they come from another part of the U.S. or did they come from the Old County? Were did all their children go? Was the name STEIN also spelled STEEN or STINE? Sebastian STEIN, was born on 3 January 1824 and died on 1 February 1908. Sebastian married Catherine EFFINGER, on 1 October 1853 in Madison, Indiana. (Catherine EFFINGER was born on 25 December 1835, died on 18 January 1918 in Cincinnati, Ohio and was buried in St. Mary's Catholic Church, North Vernon, Indiana.) Catherine EFFINGER, was born on 25 December 1835, died on 18 January 1918 in Cincinnati, Ohio and was buried in St. Mary's Catholic Church, North Vernon, Indiana. Catherine married Sebastian STEIN, on 1 October 1853 in Madison, Indiana. (Sebastian STEIN was born on 3 January 1824 and died on 1 February 1908.) Their children were: i. Joseph STEIN (born 22 November 1854 - Died 1938 , buried in Riverview Cemetery Seymour, Indiana) ii. Jacob STEIN (born 29 March 1859 in North Vernon, Indiana - Died 1 January 1949 in Cincinnati, Ohio) iii. Sabastion STEIN - (born 11 July 1856 - Died 30 November 1882) iv. Here is the answer that I got from Lori Ammerman, who is president of the Jennings county genealogy (and who is responsible for most of the records that we have online and in the library): >Sorry. At this point the Jennings County Genealogical Society is dying for lack of interest. I have been doing a once a year newsletter for the few who've managed to make connections. The Jennings County Historical Society will be creating a web page and maybe we can make a genealogical connection there. I've just gotten in the new computer, we will be establishing internet service hopefully in the next couple of weeks. I am attending a seminar on August 20th that I am hoping will help me with getting all this launched. Ronald Boyd wrote: > > Did no one have an answer to this? Thanks Jenny for pointing that out. I can't believe I forgot about that--epecially after having Antoinette take so much time to type them all in. Here is the direct link to the Jennings county newspapers online: http://www.newspaperabstracts.com/IN/Jennings/index.html We couldn't type in the 100 Years Ago columns from the current paper due to copyright. Reputed to be County Auditor of Jennings Co. for a period following War, also reputed to be part owner of Banner &/or Plain Dealer in early years. Wife Louisa Burdg Conner b. Columbiana Co. There are no back issues of the 100 Years Ago today column other than what might be on microfilm at the library. The library has all the back issues of the papers for Jennings county (all that are in existence anyway). If you have specific dates then maybe I or Denise (at the library) could look up the article for you. Terry
how can i pick up back issues of the 100 years ago- am interested in articles about the eberts who probably came around 1890-John J and his family, and John P, their wives were Flora and Catherine; later O,.J and Hazel Mae came about 1919 but my interest is in the earlier families and when they started the mill, etc, E.C.Eberts is still in the area and also looking for me. My wife is Martha Jane Eberts and we are in Florida....cdp
I wanted to remind everyone to check the 100 Years Ago Today column. I've been lax about sending the reminders the past few weeks. BUT, my son's wedding is over and hopefully life will return to normal here now. Go to http://www.northvernon.com/ and click on Local News on the side menu. Then scroll down to the 100 Years Ago column. The one for this week and last week's is online. Happy Hunting, Terry

I found a document in some old family papers that I thought might be of interest due to the many number of Jennings County residents named. The document is a teachers monthly report. I'm transcribing the names and hopefully getting them correct, as some of them are a little difficult to tell what the correct spelling is. It says Report of John McGinty Teacher of School District No. 4 to Chas.
