    3. And I hope you will enjoy it as much as I have, although I was fortunate to get my 2nd great grandparents written up in it, so naturally purchased the book at that time, but it seems like every time I look through it I find another name that connects to mine <grin>. It even has a picture of my great grandfathers brother's daughter. We just don't how fortunate we can get sometimes <grin>. Enjoy! I tried to find what I could on Butlerville. It was established in 1840 and reads like it became a thriving community and possibly still is. There is a mention of an A.S. Conner that owned a general store. There appeared to be several stores and a couple of hotels. Also under Jennings County Churches and schools there is a write-up on Butlerville United Methodist Church. The orginal church was built in 1859. Among the pastors is a T. W. Conner. Could these be your relatives. Under the schools, there evidently was a high school until 1950 when it was consolidate with North Vernon High School. There is also a writeup on the Butlerville Masonic Lodge which was organized in 1856 and is still there. > > Hope this helps some. 1. Re: [INJENNIN] Butlerville IN; Pls contrast 2001 versus 1840-50 & 1900
    2. According to the Jennings County History(a very informative book) , Butlerville was named by a man named John Morris who came to Jennings County in 1840. Morris had lived in Butlerville, Ohio before coming to Jennings County-therefore the name. He was a peddler who carried his goods on his back. Morris founded Campbell Township without a store or a town. Bryant Trickey lived in Butlerville, Ohio and was a friend of Morris. He followed him to that area and platted the town of Butlerville recording 41 lots on June 8, 1853. There were apparently a couple of very active sawmills and even some gold mining there. After the platting there was a general store and post office. More lots were later added and there is mention of a four mill and apparently a rail line(always a reason for development). If you would care for the complete write-up from this book, I will be happy to copy it and sent it snail-mail It's a little long to do all e-mail. Oh yes-my interest lies in the fact that Bryant Trickey was my great-grandfather. My grandfather, Mark Trickey, and my father ,Guy Trickey, were both born in Butlerville although the family of my father moved to Franklin County when my father was small(1890s). Hope this helps you. 2. Butlerville is pretty small. My address is Butlerville, but I actually live about 10 miles away, in the boonies. It does have a post office, and a couple of churches and a combination gas station / grocery store. Of course, there are houses there too. It's pretty small. Don't blink you might miss it! -Cindy ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Juno offers FREE or PREMIUM Internet access for less! From the experience that I've had searching for my ancestors I would consider you one of the "most" helpful people I have been in contact with. Thanks to Denise for filling your position. I have been impressed with the genealogy information at the Jennings County Library while searching for my McClellan, Clerkin, and McCaslin ancestors and I have no doubt that Denise will do a great job. I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you SO much for your hard work on this project. Not only have you obviously given hours and hours of your time preparing materials that would not otherwise be available, but you have done so with great grace. I know that I am not the only one to say that your kindness and responsiveness have been a delight. I wish you brightest blessings! 3. Hi Terry, I met Denise when she first started in the library and know she will be a good replacement for you. I was down from MI doing research and she had just took over the genealogy room after the retirement of Mrs. Horseman. We will still miss you but wish you luck in your new home. I was recently in Indianapolis and went through Fishers on my way home and it looked like a lovely area to settle in. I'm just curious Terry. What are the counties that you are researching in IN? Might be one of mine also. The best of luck. 3. I didn't have a lot of luck on the Huber family last night at the library. Here's what I found: There was no obituary for Elizabeth Huber in the North Vernon Sun or the Vernon Banner. By the way, the listing at the library says that Elizabeth is buried in St. Joseph's cemetery (not St. James) and that Jno. Huber, civil war veteran, Co B, 82nd Ind Inf. is buried in St. James cemetery. I found an obituary for a George Huber (although this is probably not yours) as follows in the Vernon Times Fri., Mar. 30, 1917 George F. Huber, age 45 years, died at his home near here Tuesday morning at 6 o'clock after a brief illness of plural pneumonia. Mr. Huber was one of our progresseive and enterprising farmers, and his sudden death came as a great shock to his numerous friends here and over the county. The deceased is survived by his wife, and four small children, who have the sympathy of the entire community. The remains were shipped Thursday morning to Warren, Indiana, for funeral services and interrment. I also found in the Jackson county death index the following: Mary Huber, Jackson twp, age 65, died 10-17-1919, Seymour, CH3 pp 17 George Huber, Pershing twp, age 56, 4-18-1905, Freetown, H24, pp7. There seemed to be alot of Hubers in Jackson county. Hope this helps. Terry
