I have been reading your answers to people as they request their Surnames. You mention that Yost wast was mentioned on page 100 and 149. I am researching the Lankford surname and there was a death of a young mother and a Yost took the child and raised it. Would like to know the names of Yosts that where living in Jennings Co. We have searched and never found any. Apparently we have not been looking the right place. Thank You Nancy Langford Olson
With reference to your question of YOST, the Index only indicates the surname, but with only a couple pages involved I checked on page 149 there is made note of a Dr. J. Yost being appointed Master of the Six Mile Lodge No. 412 Free and Accepted Masons, Hayden, Indiana. Also referencing page 100 it makes mention of J.L. Yost being in the first group of officers of this same above mentioned lodge. This was organized May 24, 1870. There was no reference to the names Langford nor Lankford. Hope this helps somewhat. Another thought, since you did not mention any years, have you checked the census records for Jennings County, or possibly the county wherein Hayden lies just for curiousity? I don't know if Hayden is in Jennings County or not. Antoinette (Tacoma, Washington) waughtel@oz.net Gary Olson wrote: > I have been reading your answers to people as they request their > Surnames. The address is Jennings County Historical Society, P. O. Box 335, Vernon, IN 57282-0335. The cost is $57.50, plus $5.00 S&H - total cost $62.50. Hope everyone gets a copy. At this rate, the 36 copies will soon be gone. I was out of town for a few days, but looks like Antoinette is on top of things as usual. Happy hunting! Antoinette, >From the amount of look up requests we've seen, you must be backlogged and probably quite weary from it all. If you are still doing these look ups and when time permits would you please check on the following surnames? GLASGOW, YOAST/YOAST, JACKSON and JAMESON. These families were in Jennings County from about 1830 through 1900. Also, would you mind reposting the details about purchasing the book? (Title, Publisher and price, etc.) .... In addition, we would love to hear from anyone else who may be researching these families. Thank You, Gerry and Dodie in AZ
Hi everyone, I'm almost out of here. Moving is scheduled for this weekend. I just wanted to send a final note (I know--I've been saying goodbye for months now) and share the information I just received from the Jennings county chamber of commerce. I had asked if they had a map of the county for sale which marked items of interest for genealogists (like churches and cemeteries). Here's the reply I received: >We are proud to say that we have a new map of Jennings County with the cemeteries marked. They are available for $2 plus postage at the Chamber office. Please call to order 812-346-2339 or fax to 812-346-7992 and ask for Judy. Thank you for your inquiry...I am sorry for the delay in answering this email. Our line has been down due to a lightning strike. Jan Tucker For those interested, I will be moving to Fishers, IN in Hamilton county. My email address will stay the same. Please keep in touch! Terry

Antoinnette-- I know you are being besieged by requests for lookups, and I apologize for adding to it, but the temptation to know before spending the bucks for the book is irresistible. Could you check the index for Chambers, Barrett/Barritt, York, Bishop, or Smothers? Thanks very much. Barbra
