    2. Tom or Donna
    3. If anyone has access to the Jennings Co Courthouse I'd sure would appreciate a lookup for a probate record for Paul F. Strickland that died 11 Jan 1917. His sons were living there in Jennings co but Paul was living with a daughter in Cass Co. I'm trying to find either a will/estate/probate or deeds that lists heirs. Thanks. Donna

    1. [INJENNIN] Philemon Phillips
    2. Mike, I am on this list because my Davis family came to Jennings Co., IN. around 1820 and was there for a while, however, I am related to Phillips on my Mom's side but they never came to Jennings. I do have a Philemon Phillips born abt 1821 in Dorchester Co., Maryland, he had 6 sons, my ancestor is William, but Philemon also had a son Philemon, I don't have date, abt 1750-1760. William and his brother John came from NC to Jessamine Co., KY. about 1795 and in 1802 went to Montgomery Co., KY., my GGG grandma, Mary C. Phillips { Conkright} was born there to in 1831 to William's son, James, and Mary Ann Garrett Phillips. Mary C. Phillips Conkright daughter, Lucy Conkright Long, my GG grandma came with her family in 1900 to Montgomery Co., IN., is this your Philemon Phillips family? Janeen Davis Proctor

If she was born after June 1850, she would not show up in the 1850 census. Her family may have moved to Illinois after she was born. Have you looked at the 1860 Fulton Co., IL census? She may be there, since marriages had to be registered in the county where the bride lived. Good Luck!

Cannot seem to find in censuses for period. Both J. Hudson and wife Anna are buried in Hillcrest Cemetery in North Vernon, along with my ggrandmother Louisa Burdg Conner, who lived with Anna when Louisa died. There were several Burdg families arriving in Jennings Co. about 1850 from Ohio. They may have been spelled Brudg in one or more censuses. J. Hudson served as Deputy Auditor for the County for a period right after the Civil War. Any help connecting him to a father's and family very much appreciated. Dick C. in Las Vegas

I have both the 1850 and 1860 FTM census CDs for IN, and I can't find them on either one. I checked for possible alternatives such as McGinley also. What info do you have that places them in Jennings Co.? Might they have moved between these times? If you send me mor info, perhaps I can look some more. Also if you know what township they lived in, that would help too.

    2. Hi Again-- Just one additional note -- information on families with several marriage links to the Wainscott/Winscott family has been gathered into a book titled "Wainscott Cousins". The families included in the book are: Baker, Elrod, Roberts, Stice, Razor, Stringfellow, McMains, Wymore, and Marsh/March/Martz. For more information on contents and how to order a copy, please contact me directly. Sue

    1. [INJENNIN] Wainscott / Winscott Family
    2. Hi Everyone-- I just want to let you know that an updated edition of the book "The Wainscott/Winscott Family of VA, NC and KY" has just been published. Many of the Wainscotts lived in Jennings County. The first publication (in 1999) prompted many people to contribute more names in their branch of the family. As a result, about 1500 names have been added. Also, 23 maps have been added showing county boundaries as they existed in the 1700s and 1800s, for states where most Wainscotts lived. For more information on contents and how to order a copy, please contact me directly. Sue Streett

You have solved a significant roadblock. I have not contacted the agency in question. The family from which Louisa came spelled their name Burdg. It was the group of families from which came Richard Nixon's grandmother Hannah's mother (Almira Park Burdg). At some point they all decided to add an "e" I guess. I do not instantly recognize the other two names, but feel sure they are related to Louisa. Thanks again Dick in Las Vegas
