Donna, Mount Vernon is in the southwestern tip of Indiana in Posey County, on the Ohio River. It is across the river from Kentucky, and is also very close to Illinois. Have you looked in those two states? Vernon and North Vernon are in Jennings County, in southeastern Indiana. I deleted the most recent Jennings Co., IN Rootsweb Jennings County, IN digest, so I cannot address my query to the person who has access to the loose papers found in the Jennings Co., IN Public Library, but whoever you are, would you look for the names Cox, Osburn, and Hill among those papers for me? I am especially interested in the names John Cox, Jesse Cox, John Osburn and wife Lurany (could be spelled differently), and Thomas Hill, Allen Hill, etc. They all lived in Jennings County from the 1820s on. Thomas Hill Sr was the founding pastor of the Coffee Creek Baptist Church and is buried in the old Coffee Creek Baptist Church cemetery just outside of Paris Crossing. Thanks in advance for your help! Judy Harvey harveyj@zoomnet.net

Donna, Several years ago, a lady named Margaret Salb extracted items from some of the Jennings County newspapers for the years 1859-1959. I'm not sure if she used the bound volumes that were at the Recorder's Office or microfilm at the library. I do know that not all the newspapers were done. She then typed the extracts and gave them to the Jennings County Public Library. They are in loose leaf binders. About ten years ago, I was doing a lot of volunteer work for the genealogy department of the library and made an index of the material each binder. At the same time, I made copies for myself.
