Monty, You need to make sure that EVERYTHING between the << >>'s is placed in the address box. I have corrected it below... but it still may (break and) wrap to the next line on your machine. The addy is: http://www.usgennet.org/usa/in/county/ripley/webcal/links/1820/ census.html Of course, as with anything else that is transcribed, there are a few minor errors--as an example, there is a man from Jennings county who is listed as "White Set" whose name was actually White Lett---but that one is totally understandable, as it looks like White Set when you see it on the actual census--I only knew otherwise because I knew he was there...

List... Where would I write to obtain a copy of a marriage certificate in Jennings County? Christopher Hood Serena Pettiford November 26, 1869 ...Randy... "Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away."
I descend through John WAUGHTEL (Jennings County) and Eliza Ann KEITH (Decatur County) and since I was at a standstill through my direct line, I decided to try the sibling route of my great grandfather (John WAUGHTEL) and see what I could come up with. John's brother James WAUGHTEL Jr was married (1) Zelphia/Zylphia Jane MARSH and they had 6 children ~ Lola who married John HELT, Scott who married Elvareen REYNOLDS, Bertha who married Ralph OVERFIELD, Minnie who married Sanford A. JOYCE, Samuel who died at age 23, James E/F who married Effie COULTER. While these children were very young the mother died 1889 with the father remarrying to Caroline Bliss Hammon/d (1890) and to the best of my knowledge they did not have any children of their own. In the 1900 census Scott (shown as a nephew) is living with the Jesse & Louiza MARTIN family, along with an Alta BARRIGER (shown as a niece). Upon further research I find that Alta was a daughter of Sarah Catherine, a sister of Zelphia & Louiza (Louisa). Since the mother's side of the family seemed to have taken in these (or at least some of the children) I am trying to find out who took in my grandfather (son of John & Eliza Ann) if anyone did, as I cannot find anything on him from the time his mother died January 1889/and the marriage of the father John to Kate Carson Webb (July 1889 who was the widow of Pleasant Webb) until 1900 when he (my grandfather Rome Waughtel) was found in the census in the Philippine Islands in the military, although I have read where he visited family in August 1898 in Scipio and he enlisted in the military December 1898. I would be most interested in corresponding with anyone who might be able to help me tie these loose ends together. I am happy to say that in the past couple weeks I have received several family pictures of Lola Waughtell HELT's family from another online researcher throught the WAUGHTELL/HAMMOND connection. I have never seen a picture of my great grandfather John WAUGHTEL and am dearly hoping that by going through the sibling lines that someone out there might have one <grin>. Thank you for taking the time to read this rather lengthy message and hoping to hear from someone. Antoinette (Tacoma, Washington) waughtel@oz.net
Alexander and Harriet (Warner) Holton and their two sons Jonathan Warner Holton and William Augustus Warner Holton, migrated to Jennings Co. from Westminister, Vermont. They had arrived when daughter Harriet was born 1 Nov. 1818, at Vevay, Indiana. They are enumerated in the 1820 census for Jennings Co. I am interested in any information on this family, particularly time of arrival, land deeds, and the burial place and date of death for Alexander. Unconfirmed data indicates he died about 1823 in Vernon. Thank you. Joan Hunter, Eugene, Oregon
Hi Bonita, Thanks so much for all of the info on the Conners. You were a big help in filling in some blank areas. Conner was mentioned as having been partly responsible for the establishment of The Plain Dealer in 1864. Dori Bruns
