    3. Dick, According to the book, Jennings County Indiana 1816-1999: The government survey of Indiana and Jennings county was the result of the Congress legislation called the Land Ordinance of 1787. There was a battle between the advocated of the sale of new lands to farmers, frontiersmen and merchant to become owners of small parcels of land and the wealthy southern plantation owners and southern aristocrats who felt their wealth made them more capable of handling the sale of the land and development of new lands. John Adams and Thomas Jefferson were instrumental in pushing the Rectangular Survey System which called for a survey of all lands and then that it be sold in 40 acre tracts for as little as $1.s5 an acre. the purpose of selling the land was to raise money to pays the debts from the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812. Thought that was pretty interesting. 3. In my searching so far, I have found that they came from all over KY. Some came from the Northeast, down the Ohio and into Northern KY Area then on to Jennings, Ripley and Decatur counties. I have one family that came from Garrard county KY, After the Northwest Treaty was passed in 1781, people started really coming to Indiana and in early 1800's they started dividing into counties and into townships and selling tracts of land at very food prices. Other names in the family are McCammon, Spencer and Meek. I have noticed many families came from KY. Is there a pattern of immigration I am missing? I understand that many families traveled together, and I'm curious if there is a certain area from KY that the families in Jennings traveled from or did they come from all over in KY. My question: is Paris Crossing that I find on the map now the same as Paris from 1837? Have the county boundry lines changed in that time frame? TIA Joni Curtis

    3. I am curious about this. The name Ferren shows up as the first wife of my Fielding Denney. He died in Jennings county in 1845. A source in FTM gives his first wife as Sarah Ferren. I have never found any proof of this. They would have been married in Scott County, KY. She died before 1815, leaving two daughters, Mary and Lucy. Fielding and his second wife Jane Hicklin moved to Jennings County. Any interest out there?
