Will do, Marianne. There was no mention in the 22nd paper, but do you by chance have an Ada OATES who was the wife of a Charles H. SINEX. He was killed on K.&I. bridge/railroad accident February 5, 1889 New Albany, IN. I recently received an obit of Mr. Sinex indicating he left a wife & 2 children. No names, naturally, were mentioned. Bunny, no HARPER was shown in August 22nd issue, but am making a log with SURNAMES being researched and name/e-mail address of researcher from future issues. Since I subscribe to the paper, if I come across an Obit of the name I will type it up for you. I will try to stay as current and on time as I can <grin> Antoinette waughtel@oz.net Bunny Colvin wrote: > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Terry" <tengel@sourceharvest.com> > Sent: Monday, August 28, 2000 11:56 AM > > > Antoinette has volunteered to do lookups for surnames in the 100 year > > ago today column. > > Thanks Antoinette! Terry and Antoinette, Thanks to both of you for your hard work. Jeanette Alabama
Antoinette is a gem! My surnames of particular interest are: CAMPBELL DRIVER MAHAN McCOY LETT RUDDICK WELLS I am especially interested in any mention of the death of John H LETT 22 July 1880 in Seymour --- John was born and raised in Paris, Jennings county, and had many relatives still living there at the time of his death--So I would expect some mention of his death in the Jennings county papers. Thanks, Sherri In a message dated 00-08-28 14:42:38 EDT, you write: << Antoinette has volunteered to do lookups for surnames in the 100 year ago today column. You guys are doing a great job! My ancestor from Indiana is Samuel Davis. Although I have found a Samuel Davis with the same birth year - age connection, I have still not found anything that actually connects them together. The Samuel Davis that I am looking for moved to Missouri and bought property there in 1880, so I am not sure if your current work would be of any help. If by chance you run across a connection to a Samuel Davis, born in 1840 or 41 that married a Cynthia Ellen Weddle of Jackson Co., Indiana (her birth date Sept. 10, 1847), I would be very interested. They had children in Indiana and I have not yet found the exact place of their births much less their marriage date and location. They had children, Jessie - 1864, Clark - 1865, Arri and Richard Lon - 1867 (Twins), Freddie - 1873 and Will - 1873?. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, Carol B. Groover, Locust Grove, Ga.
Hi Antoinette, When you get the time, I am looking for Meek and Riddle lines in Jennings Co.IN Thanks for your offer! Marilyn Merritt

Antoinette, This must really keep you busy. I would like to know if you have anything on Davis. Janeen Davis Proctor
Antoinette has volunteered to do lookups for surnames in the 100 year ago today column. If you are interested, please send your name, email address and surname you are interested in. If you have more than one surname that you are looking for, please list them in alphabetical order. Terry
Terry, Either year is great for me. Also I would be happy to contribute to the cost of the copies. Please send an address and I will be happy to donate to the cause. Terry, My choice would be 1890. My great-grandfather owned a store in North Vernon during that time period. Up to now I have not been able to find any informtaion on it. Bunny

Terry, I would like to see the 1890 articles. Thank you for doing this for all of us. Hi everyone, As most of you know, Antoinette and I have been working on a 120 years ago newspaper column. I have been going to the library and getting copies of a month's worth of newspapers for 1880 and sending them to Antoinette. She's been typing them up and emailing me. I have been distributing it to the list and then posting it at: http://www.newspaperabstracts.com/IN/Jennings.html The current Jennings county newspaper (North Vernon Plain Dealer and Sun) runs a column on Tuesdays (the paper runs twice a week) called 100 years ago today. They print newspaper abstracts from the paper published in 1900. I asked for permission to post this, but it was denied. However, for those interested in subscribing, the cost for a year's subscription to the paper ranges from $26.00 to $35.00 depending on where you live. If you had ancestors here in 1900 you might consider subscribing to the newspaper. Antoinette and I were considering changing our column from 1880 to 1890 (110 years ago today). What we were thinking is that many people lose track of their ancestors between 1880 and 1900 (both census years). We thought if we did a 1890 column maybe that will help some people fill in the gaps. So, what I want to know from you guys if whether you would prefer us to contine the 1880 or change to 1890. I would like to do both and will if I can, but I the cost might be too much for my budget to handle. I have to pay for the copies of the paper and the postage to send it to Antoinette so she can type it up for us. She then emails me the typed version and I distribute it to the lists and the web page. Let me know which you would prefer (1880 or 1890) and I'll concentrate on that year and add the other year in as I have the money to do. Terry Jennings County INGenWeb Coordinator
Thought it might be helpful to people to post that in Jennings County there are two Coffee Creek churches. One is Coffee Creek Baptist and the other is Coffee Creek Christian. According to the late Mary Lewis Osterman the Coffee Creek Christian was a split from the Coffee Creek Baptist. So, if you know your relatives went to a "Coffee Creek" church it would be worth your while to check both churches. The Coffee Creek Christian burial census is not online that I know of (but maybe after I visit Jennings County again this fall??). Sincerely, Jonathan Loppnow
HI Terry - Personally I would prefer to continue with 1880. I would also be more than willing to provide assistnace with both typing as well as a financial contribution for copies, etc. I think we all realize the cost of copies etc. You are doing all of us with ancestors in Jennings County a huge favor. Marianne Hauptman DHaupt6137@aol.com
Where can we find the Hoosier Journal? Is it a newspaper, magazine or a book? What date? My Lewises were involved with the Coffee Creek Baptist Church. Judy
For those of you who enjoyed the above captioned poem, I must admit to many typos throughout this poem. Guess I was in too big of a hurry and didn't proof my work. Anyone wanting a corrected copy I will send to them as an attachment. Again I am sorry for the errors. I fell in love with Scipio when I visited there in 1990, 1991 and 1992. And am hoping someday to make it back again. My great grandfather is the John Waughtel in the poem. My grandfather Rome and his siblings were born there. It has a special meaning to me. Thanks again.
