    1. Re: Samuel Davis
    2. I am looking for information on SAMUEL DAVIS born about 1841. I found a Samuel in Jennings County that might possibly be the person I am looking for. He married a Cynthia Ellen WEDDLE. I just found where the two married - in Bartholomew Co. in 1864. But I still have no evidence of Samuel's home town. I also found a military record for a Samuel G. DAVIS, resident of Bartholomew Co. that mustered into the 10th In. Calvary. Does anyone know if the Samuel Davis in Jennings' middle initial is G. Or does anyone have evidence of this being the husband of Ellen Weddle? HELP. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Carol Groover, Locust Grove, Ga. P.S. Jan Davis Proctor, please touch base with me. I have lost you e-mail address.

    3. David, Maybe you can help me with the Powell side of your family. My grandmother was a Powell; Lee Agnes Cleone (Powell) Haag (1896-1958). Her father William Henry Powell (1852-1939) was married(1883 Jennings Co.) to Mattie Sage (1866-1900). I know little more about each than they are buried in New Hope Cemetery in Jackson county. I have pictures of both that I will share if there's a connection for you. I would also like to find out more about their heritage. 2. Terry, Adam Patterson is listed with his family on the 1850 Jennings County, Bigger Township, census. His wife, Roxanna, is listed as head of household on the 1860 Johnson County census. It is possible he died in Jennings County. Please check your cemetery info for an Adam Patterson or any other male Patterson that would have been born around 1796 and died between 1850 and 1860. Thanks for your help. Jeanette

    3. There's only one library in Jennings county and that's the one located on Hwy 3 in North Vernon. Their web site is http://www.seidata.com/~jlibrary/jcplhome.html. Look under genealogy/local history. Their web site doesn't mention nearly the wealth of info they have there though. Denise Shafer is the one to contact about copying. I'm not sure how much material she will copy, but I do know that the library has very reasonable rates for copies. Since I don't have any Jennings ancestors, I've never checked Ft. Wayne for what Jennings county info they have available. I'll be happy to help you locate any material at the library in Jennings that you are interested in. 3. Bunny, In Hillcrest cemetery, I found Edgar Harper born 2-4-1883 died 4-11-1890. In my obit abstract listing for these years, I have: Harper, Charles Edgar. The infant child of W. J Harper and wife died Thursday and was burind Friday in the city cemetery (4/9/1890). In memoriam to Charles Edgar Harper....After very intense suffering, on Thursday Morning, April 3, 1890, Charles Edgar Harper, aged 14 months, closed his eyes in sleep...... Obviously the obit and the cemetery record are not the same person, but I didn't know which one you wanted. There is no death record for anyone with the surname Harper in Book 1 (which covers 1883-1890). Hope this helps. Terry

    3. I've never heard of this book. In the library they have about 14 three ring binders (by township) with all the cemteries and who is buried in each one. I do plan on listing the cemeteries in Jennings, but I don't have a list of who is buried in each (but the library does). Terry
