I believe that F.M.B.A. (Firemen's Mutual Benefit Association) actually was a form of insurance. My son is a volunteer firefighter and was told that in the early years fire departments (usually volunteer) sold insurance at a nominal fee for fire protection. As I understand it, that was the way fire departments were able to maintain their equipment. Each insurer was given a cast iron sign which was then attached on or near the front door. Bunny in CA
It is like the FOP Fraternal Order of Police. It is an organization for fireman and their families. You can contact your local fire station and they can give you more information or direct you to someone that can.
I have had 2 replies that think the F.M.B.A. is the Firemen's Mutual Benefit Association. If this is correct, then what is it? What was its' purpose? It sounds like an insurance company, but I'm sure that's not what it is. Thanks! ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Could it be a misprint and be F & A.M. which was a lodge kinda like the Masons, my ggg was a member in Decatur county. Hello List, I am seeking the parents and siblings of GEORGE W. BURNETT, born in Indiana, November 15, 1862. I have no idea the county. That was all I could find on census, death certificate, etc. On a tape, made when she was very old, his wife Mary, related this story told to her by GEORGE. George's mother was killed in an accident or died suddenly, when he was an infant. There were other children, don't know ages or how many. George was adopted by Shoemaker/Shumaker?Shoebaker??? He lived with them until the courthouse burned. It destroyed the adoption records. I don't know his age at the time this occurred. He was in Sumner County, Kansas on April 14, 1900. On that day he married Mary M. Bell. George said he couldn't have left if the records were still available for his adoption. Reason unknown. When he left Indiana, he took back his birth name BURNETT, and continued to use it until his death. This is a brick wall. I would really appreciate any help or advise you could provide. If you have any information, you may Email me at JANETSQUAW@aol.com Thank you in advance for your help. Respectfully yours, Jan
I am so sorry to clog up the list with those repeats. I don't know exactly how it happened. (I hope the apology doesn't get repeated as well.) Sincerely, Jonathan Loppnow
Question?!! Just got this ad from Generations software... http://www.heritagequest.com/cgi-bin/nspage26.cpg?catalog=store2&file=mc.htm& @where.Z_ID@eq=K-00IV does anyone know if their Indiana index includes Jennings?? It says 68 counties, but most of us have been burned before and the ad does not list the counties. Randy Greene
In one of the "100 Years Ago Today" columns my great - grandfather Joseph H. Smith was listed as being president of the F.M.B.A. I assume this is probably some type of farmer's organization. Could someone clue me in please? Thanks! -Cindy ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Juno offers FREE or PREMIUM Internet access for less! I have placed the cemetary records for Coffee Creek CHRISTIAN Church online on my web page at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jlopp/index.html This church was a split from Coffee Creek BAPTIST as I understand and is near Paris Crossing, Indiana. Unfortunately I had to use Adobe Acrobat PDF format for now which means you'll have to use the free Adobe Acrobat Reader if you want to look at these files. I've put the link there for that download as well. Sincerely, Jonathan Loppnow

Posted on: Jennings County IN Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/In/Jennings/10691 Surname: Bennett ------------------------- I am looking for the burial place of Hugh Bennett. Lived in Jennings County in 1922. I understand there is a Bennett Cemetery and someone also suggested to check Ebenezer Cemetery. Can someone help locate his grave? I am no relation, but am trying to help another individual locate this person. I've been told that he is not in the Vernon Cemetery.
I want to remind everyone to check the 100 Years Ago Today column for this week. Go to http://www.northvernon.com and click on Local News on the side menu. Then scroll down to see this week's 100 years ago today column. Happy Fat Tuesday! Terry
