According to the World Almanac (1993 ed., p 717), there are two Christian Churches: Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) - 4069 churches, 1,039,692 members; and Christian Church and Churches of Christ - 5579 churches, 1,070,616 members. The former was begun "among evangelical Presbyterians in Ky. (1804) and Penn. (1809), in distress over Protestant factionalism and decline of fervor. Organized 1832." -p 724.
