Hello everyone! I have returned from my first ever trip to Jay Co. Had a wonderful time! The Jay Co. Genealogy Society Folks were a great help. They have a lot of resources in their office and know alot about the county and its familes. I also spent alot of time at the courthouse. Unfortunately, the Salt Lake City folks were there filming wills etc. so I could not access the orignal documents. I must tell you that the Jay County Genealogy Society is trying to get "custody" of some of these original documents. I thought this was an important project of theirs: You know how frustrating it sometimes is to find death records in Jay Co? Thats because many of the records were destroyed in a flood. I made a personal donation to the society to help defray the costs in obtaining and housing these records properly. While I was there we talked about the web site and the work of the society and the importance of working co-operatvely. I have already told you that the web site will at sometime in the near future have a data base of cemetary inscriptions from Jay County Cemetaries, donated by the Jay County Genealogy Society and currently being scanned and typed by a tireless volunteer! These inscriptions were a huge help to me, especially since I had been unable to obtain death records for a few of my folks. I am sure they will be of interest to you too! I have been a little slow to update the site of late, its been very busy here for me, but we also have another new look-up volunteer and some more additions to the scrap book, and I hope to post a few photos from my trip this weekend. If anyone out there has time to proof-read some of the cemetary transcriptions before they are placed on the site, please let me know. Also, having been there myself and seeing what they have and what they want to do, I would encourage you to join the Jay Co. Genealogy Society if you have not already done so. Hope you all had as nice a summer as me!
