    3. Hello all.. I have had a few complaints about the size of the file on the civil war soldiers posted at the Jay County Web Site. I agree with you all the file is too big and I need to do something! I will try to split the file up over the next few days. Please be paitient as I learn how to do this! Shouldn't be too long. In the meantime, I hope this file and some of the other new files up there are proving useful to you . Any one wanting to make any comments or suggestions is always free to email directly at paulec@cactuscom.com. I am open to any suggestions to make the site as good and as helpful as we can. ! 3. Arthur, Thanks for your response. There is evidently a movement dedicated to re-uniting the Disciples of Christ, Church of Christ and Christian Church, so your information is correct. The problem I am having now is which of these sects had a church in either Nottingham Twp., Wells Co or Penn Twp., Jay Co in 1870. I have written to the church historian and gotten no response, ditto to the pastor of the nearest active church I could find, which is in Ft. Wayne. 3. According to the World Almanac (1993 ed., p 717), there are two Christian Churches: Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) - 4069 churches, 1,039,692 members; and Christian Church and Churches of Christ - 5579 churches, 1,070,616 members. 3. I am not at all sure about this... but I think Presbyterian for some reason. ?? Any one else? -----Original Message----- From: ellie burch [SMTP:elliebu@sprynet.com] Sent: Saturday, November 28, 1998 10:46 PM To: INJAY-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Christian Church If one joined the "Christian Church" in Wells or Jay Co, IN in 1870, what would that church denomination be? Some of the family lived in Nottingham Township, Wells Co and some in Penn Township, Jay Co. Pennville was the nearest town to both I believe. One of the daughters migrated to Hood River, OR and when she died in 1931 the funeral was in the First Christian Church of Hood River. Her name was Eleanor Wilcox and she married James Ross Cash in Jay County, 1871. Any help appreciated. Ellie Burch Sebastopol, CA

    3. I recently received a book on the history of the Bryant area of Jay County. The book contains a number of references to families of the area and many old photos. I am willing to look through the book for your Bryant area surnames. Please note that the book is NOT indexed, so be kind! and don't ask me to go fishing for you! Ask if you have a good idea that your surnames were based in the northern part of the county, and don't ask for too many at a time! Amy Campbell Jay County Co-ordinator

    1. TB Sanitorium Locations in Indiana
    2. Arthur Hopkins
    3. I'd like to find out whether there were any TB sanitoria in Indiana, especially around Delaware County, about 1890-1900. My great grandmother died of TB (consumption) in 1896, and two of her children died young, possibly also of TB. Her husband died about 1898, but I've been unable to find any record of his death in Delaware County. I thought he might have gone elsewhere for treatment, and died there. I know this isn't strictly a Jay County question, but I was hoping someone would know about this. If you want to contact me directly, my address is: arthopkins@seanet.com Thank you. The link can be found at the main page, under Jay County resources and Research Aids. It is a large file and takes a few extra seconds to load, but it is worth a browse!!! 3. I am also researching the McLaughlin/ McGlaughlin line in Jay Co. My family came from VA to Meigs Co., OH; then to Jay Co. in the mid-1800's. My line has stayed in Indiana, at least the close relatives. I am having a hard time finding information on the wives' family lines. John MCLAUGHLIN (b. 21 Feb 1799, Bath Co., VA)(d. 16 Mar 1860, Jay Co., IN) married Barbara SPILLMAN on 26 Aug 1823 in Meigs Co., OH they had 11 children! 3. Is there anyone on this list working on MC GLAUGHLIN/MC LAUGHLIN who moved to Jay Co. in the middle 1800's from Ohio/Virginia. I could also add the surnames of COTTRILL and BICKLE, as they may be able to lead me to where in Virginia for the MC GLAUGHLIN's. I am working on a branch of the MC GLAUGHLIN's that were born in Virginia (I know not where) moved to Vinton Co. Ohio. They were married in Vinton, Meigs, Athens and Gallia counties. And then my bunch moved on to Wood Co. Ohio for a very short time and then to Michigan. I would like to compare notes, share what I have, etc. in hopes we can help each other trace them back thur Virginia.
