    3. Hello everyone! I wanted to let you know about some exciting things happening on the Jay Co. Genealogy USGENWEB site. A while back, some one donated another death diary containing over 1000 entries from the first half of the 20th C.This was a very large file and was difficult to format for the site. After playing around with it, we decided it was time to try out a search engine. We have created a search engine now, which we have tested and attached (off line!) to this death diary. Its working well. So well, in fact, that over the next few months we will try linking the entire site (with the exception of the Queries Bios and Obits forum which are already searchable) to our new search engine. This means when you come to the site, you will be able to enter a last name and find all the entries on the site for it, be they in a death diary, surname registry, or the civil war vets data base. This search engine is fairly state of the art...so much so that we can not put it up on rootsweb. The site will remain where it is..on rootsweb where it is hosted for free..but I must move some of the databases to my service provider. We are waiting for the service provider to install what it needs to be able to run the search engine. I expect in the next week to have this new searchable death diary on line and will let you all know when its up and running! We will slowly begin to index the entire site to it over the next few months. This means that there will be much work going on and much will change. If you have any data at all, now is the time to donate it! We are also begining to explore the possibility of putting searchable gedcom files up as well...don't send your gedcom's yet, but keep them handy! Thanks to everyone who uses the site and has made it the great site it is becoming. Thanks especially to all those who donate information. 1999 will be an exciting year for Jay County Genealogy on the net. Amy
