    1. Dunkirk Cemeteries
    2. Connie Brubaker
    3. Dunkirk lays on the edge of Jay and Blackford Co's. There is a cemetery just north west of Dunkirk at the edge of town but in Blackford Co that is called the Dunkirk IOOF cemetery. I can give you exact directions if you plan to travel there. The Blackford Co Library in Hartford City has a complete listing of burials in the Bl. Co cemeteries. As for Jay Co the records are kept by the genealogical society. They have a great Genealogy society hopefully someone from there will answer the email also. I can't put my hands of the card of the guy that runs it but they are very helpful. They are located in Portland. Hope this help both of you. Connie Brubaker

    1. Re: Marriage Records
    2. Hi Jan: According to my map, Dunkirk is located on the county lines of Blackford, Jay, and Delaware counties. You might try to contact the Genealogical society in Muncie. Good Luck in your search! In a message dated 9/2/99 5:52:24 PM !!!First Boot!!!, Bubblecut@aol.com writes: << I had forgotten until recently that Dunkirk is sort of divided among two counties, Jay and Blackford (and maybe three? Randolph?). Are all of the marriage records stored in one county or are they divided up, too? I have located my great-grandparents' marriage license from 1874. But I can't seem to find my grandparents' marriage records. My grandmother has always told me that they were married on April Fools' Day in 1934 in Dunkirk. I've written to all three counties - one even stated (and I think it was Blackford, off the top of my head) that Dunkirk was in Jay County and sent my request back. Any ideas? Thanks, Jan >>

    2. Amy Campbell
    3. Goodmorning everyone! A new look-up volunteer has joined us..she is Phyliis Franklin and her resource is Dr. J. J. Kidder's baby book, which she has indexed. Dr. Kidder practiced in south eastern Jay County, office in Salamonia, Madison Township, from 1896 to 1954 when he died. He delivered babies in Jay County, Randolph County, Indiana, Darke County, and Mercer County Ohio. Included in his records consistently was the father's name, mother's maidian name, babies name and birthdate, time of birth, place of birth, child's position in the family, i.e. 1st, 3rd etc. Other information included but inconsistently was parent's place of birth, father's occupation, babies weight and length. There were about 1500 entrys. Also up this morning is a listing of cemetary inscpriptions from Winters Cemetary, and a new photo in the album. The photo album is getting quite popular and I may have to "re-jig" it as I expected some of you may find it slow to load! Hope you are all having a wonderful summer! I am looking forward to my first ever trup to Jay County next weekend. I have very limited time but am sure it will be worthwhile! Cheers Amy Jay County Co-ordinator INgenWeb project

    3. Hello everyone! wanted to let you know that there have been a number of new photos submitted. In the next few months, we shall have some searchable cemetary transcriptions as well. Hopefully sometime in the fall, all the data bases currently on the site will be linked into a single search engine. The site is experiencing a lot of traffic lately, and I am so happy to see that people are finding it useful and worth returning to. If any one has data to donate at this time, or concerns/suggestions about the format, just let me know. While I am awfully busy in the coming months, suggestions will be taken into consideration as I begin the site overhaul sometime in September. I am hoping to get to Jay County sometime in August. Not for sure yet, but begining to think about it. Anyone know where I should stay? Hope you are all having a great summer! Amy

    3. I am passing this all on to you in case you rubn accross information on the surname JOHNSON on any sites etc. What some people won't do!! Amy Jay County Coordinator USGENWEB -----Original Message----- From: Lori [SMTP:lori@myself.com] Sent: Thursday, July 22, 1999 9:55 PM To: INGENWEB-L@usgennet.org Subject: INGenWeb: Bogus queries Passed on to you all as requested: Subject: [STATE-COORD-L] Bogus Queries Date: Thu, 22 Jul 1999 12:03:18 -0700 From: Linda Russell Lewis <cityslic@ix.netcom.com> To: STATE-COORD-L@rootsweb.com Apparently someone is posting queries to various counties using mine and other volunteers' names and e-mail addresses. So far, the queries are for the surname JOHNSON. Would you please ask your cc's to remove any query that "looks" like it came from me since July 21, 1999? I have not posted a query in over almost a year. This person, Jesse K. Moore, after threatening to launch a campaign against personal genealogical research, has already started. He is attempting to dilute online genealogy with bogus information, according to his claim. We asked RW to block him from posting to the GenConnect boards, and they complied. RW also reported the offenses to his ISP, but it looks like he is using various yahoo and AOL accounts, too. Thanks, Linda ~~~~~~~~~~~ Lori SC INGW

    1. QUERY
    2. RICHARD F DENNEY
    3. I descend from William Felton Denney who was one of the first settlers of Jay County, IN and who is buried at the Pisquah Cemetery outside Fort Recovery, Ohio. He was my great great grandfather and he left many descendants around the Jay County, IN/Mercer County, Ohio areas. My great grandfather was Harrel Felton Denney. My query concerns Harrel and his wife Caroline, his wife was Caroline Graves, daughter of Henderson Graves, the first Sheriff of Jay County. Harrel's DOB Aug 4, 1827 and DOD Jun 20, 1908 and Carolines DOB Oct 16, 1834 and DOD Unk. My problem is, I can not determine where Harrel and Caroline died and where they are buried. I have a obituary for Harrel which left some hints but they do not seem to pan out, it stated he died on the land his father (William) had pioneered as a grant in Jay County Indiana, if this was so, that means he died in Jay County and should have been recorded there . I have checked with the Jay County Health Dept and there is no Harrel Denney recorded there which means either he was not recorded as a death or died elsewhere. Caroline was still alive in 1907. She may have died in Grant County, near Marion, IN as there are indications she was living with a son there. Can anyone help me here! If anyone is interested in data on this line please contact me Richard Denney rdenney@prodigy.net
