Hello!! I am searching for a Hammond family that lived in Jay Co., in 1860. I located William D. and Mary Hammond in the Indiana 1860 Census of Jay County, Jefferson Township. He was listed as a farmer. I cannot find them anywhere in Indiana in 1850, although their 13 year old son, and 10 year old daughter were listed as born in Indiana. If anyone has information on this family, I would love to have it. Thanks, Tammy Pursley
Good Morning, My ggGrandparents were Alva(y) WOOD and Polly PRATT. Polly is believed to be the daughter of Gilbert PRATT, PA, OH, IN. Alva and Polly m. in Randolph County, but were counted in Jay Co. in the 1850 Census. They removed from there to Noble Co. during that same Census year and were counted again. I am seeking documentation of Polly's parentage and parents of Alva. There was an Alva and Aaron who arrived in Noble county in the 1830's and purchased land there. I believe one of those men could be the father of Alva from Jay Co. If anyone has connections or knowledge of either of these families, I would like to exchange info with you. Thank you, Cher

Hello, I am the new State Coordinator for the Indiana Census Project and would like to urge each of you to consider transcribing a Census. I along with about a million other Genealogists would Thank you. Our Project was started by volunteers of The USGenWeb Project, to transcribe all of the US Federal Census' and upload them to the Internet where they will be available in a searchable archive for all, for FREE. We provide our volunteer transcribers with either a database Program, for census years 1850 and 1860, that has been written exclusively for this Project, or a spreadsheet template for all other years. Our programmer is writing updates that will eventually include all other years. For MAC users we have a Coordinator who specializes in MAC's and she will get you the templates you need. At this time we are unable to provide our transcribers with a copy of the census for the county they wish to transcribe. Each of you must obtain your own copy of the census you sign up for. You will be volunteering your time to transcribe and you will be volunteering the acquisition of the census information. This information can be acquired on CD or in book form. Please consider helping this worthwhile project. Best wishes Sandra USGENWEB Census Project Maryland State Coordinator Indiana State Coordinator Traces of the Past http//www.geocities.com/Heartland/Valley/7259

Hi- I am looking for any BERKHEISERS and their relatives. Several Berkheisers moved to Indiana from Pennsylvania in the early 1800s. Other possible names in the early family are Johannes and Elizabeth Beyer and Johannes and Susanna Miller. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Gregory
If Tina is on this list, I've had three emails to her bounce (to <tclouse@mail.accs.net>), regarding Clouse family information. Please email me. Thanks, Jan Rader Kent, Ohio
On the 1850 census for Jay Co., Wayne Twsp. is listed: Elijah W. Carley -- 55 - W. Canada-Farmer Ruth - 57- N.J. Clarenda - 20 - Ohio Louisana J. - 17 - Ohio Harvey Reed - 32- Ohio - laborer Eliza 8 - In. Mary 5 - In. Samantha 3 - In. Sophronia - 1- In. Harvey Reed's wife died 3 months after the birth of Sophronia. Her name, according to marriage records in Gallia Co., Ohio was Mary Jane McCarley, and she and Harvey were married 5 Nov. 1839 in Gallia. Their first child Charles Reed was born 26 Aug. 1840 in Gallia Co., Ohio. The rest were born in Jay Co. On this census that was sent to me, it appears that Charles must have been staying somewhere else, as was also a dau. Sarah Ann, b. ca 1843 and called Sally. Old handwritten family record I have also gives Harvey Reeds wife's surname as Carley, but others in Ohio seem to believe it was McCarley and just got mixed up on the census and that Elijah Carley was really Elijah McCarley as there were lots of them in Gallia. But I also found two graves in material on the Finch Cem., located on 107, near the Jay Co. Conservation Club. Elijah W. Carley, died Nov. ll, 1867, aged 72 years, 7 months, 18 days. Ruth Carley, wife of Elijah, died Oct. l, 1855, aged 63 years, 4 months, 21 days. I had wondered if Elijah changed his name from McCarley to Carley when he moved from Ohio to Ind. as nobody seems to be able to find him in Ohio area of Gallia. If anyone has info on this family would love to know which name is correct. Also, if anyone knows where Harvey Reed is buried, or where he died, or where his wife is buried, etc. - wills, estates, etc. He is on 1860 census but not 1870. At one time his son Charles lived around Mt. Pleasant I think they called it. Any help appreciated. I did hear last May from someone who had descendent info on James Jackson Finchwho was married to Ruth Ann Carley. He was at a loss to know what this all means also. Can anyone help on the Carley family there, or tell us if there is a mistake and it is McCarley? Any help much appreciated. Shirley Reed
Does anyone on this list research the McAbee surname or know of someone that does? In the Samuel Denny line that I work, Sidney Denney married Sam McAbee, probably around 1880. They had 6 to 9 children, unsure of exact number. Now, later in my research, there is a Rowena McAbee that marries a Loren Pfiefer and a Robin William McAbee that marries a Susan Millett. I am thinking these later McAbees tie into Sam and Sidney McAbee and would like to further expand that line. Below is all I have on Sam and Sidney Denney McAbee. Richard Denney Descendants of Sam McAbee Generation No. 1 1. SAM1 MCABEE was born Abt. 1862. He married SIDNEY DENNEY1, daughter of WILLIAM DENNEY and JULIA PAINTER. She was born 1864 in Mercer County,Ohio2, and died 1919 in Portland, IN2. I found Sidney's grave site in 1996 at Greenmound Cemetery, Fort Recovery, Ohio. There was no husband buried with her, the story above may account for that. They had a total of 9 children, no data on three of them. ADDITIONAL DATA ON CHILDREN Felt lived Portland, IN, name may have been Felton as others in the Denney lines were named. Waldo lived Portland, IN. John lived Portland, IN. Children of SAM MCABEE and SIDNEY DENNEY are: i. FELT2 MCABEE, b. Abt. 18852. ii. LILLIE MCABEE, b. Abt. 1886, Mercer County, Ohio2; d. Portland, IN. iii. ORPHA MCABEE, b. Abt. 18882. iv. WALDO MCABEE, b. Abt. 18892. v. MARTHA MCABEE, b. Abt. 18912. vi. JOHN MCABEE, b. Abt. 18922. Endnotes 1. S7-1 Descendants of Samuel Denney by Guy Carlton Denney. 2.
