Hello All, My Mother's roots are in Jackson-Jennings counties of Indiana. She has asked me to see if I could find any information regarding her family in the area. Mom's maiden name is Dowd. Her full name is Katherine Virginia Dowd. Her brother's name is Harry S. Dowd. They are the children of Kenneth Dowd (b.1897 d. 8/43) and Jemima May Stewart (b. 5/16 in Washington IN, d. 8/46) Kenneth Dowd had a brother, Fletcher Dowd. Fletcher ran a funeral home in North Vernon and both worked in a family run furniture store at one time. The father of Kenneth and Fletcher would be Harry H. Dowd and Mom thinks his wife's name was Jane. That is all we have on that side of the family. Jemima Stewart was the daughter of Joe Stewart b. Jennings county, 1878 and Sarah Sade Shaw b. Jennings county 1880. Joe Stewart had a sister named Bessie. Sarah Shaw had a sister named Eldie. Joe Stewart was an engineer on the B&O line running through Seymour for 50 years. He ran the Cincinnati - St. Louis run on the passenger train "The Diplomat" through the end of WWII. The parents of Joseph Stewart were Mr, & Mrs William Stewart The Parents of Sade (Sara) Shaw were Mr. & Mrs. Benjiman Shaw. We have no more information.
