His wife was Sarah, born about 1860 in Indiana. James appears to have two brothers, Leonidas, born about 1850 in Indiana and Clark, born about 1851 in Indiana. From their birthdates, it would seem that the father of James, Leonidas and Clark (Clarkson) migrated to Indiana, probably from N.C.
