Remember we are at the mercy of the enumerators and transcribers when dealing with these old records. Howard D Provins married Margaret Ames in Kosciusko county, Indiana on 17 Aug 1871, source is book D, page 448. I could find no other info for her prior to that date. In the 1860 census for Huntington county, Salamony township, page 25, there was a family headed by Charles Provines, 42, a farmer, born in Pa, and included Mary A, Ohio, - Sarah E, 14, Ohio, - Stephen F, 11, Ind, - Howard D, 9, Ind, - William A, 6, Ind, - Willis A, 4, Ind, - George A, 2, Ind, and Mary J, 6/12, Ind. In the 1870 census for Kosciusko county, Harrison township, page 8, the family was headed by Charles Perriaus (as spelled), 50, farmer, Pa, and included Mary A, 43, keeping house, Ohio, - Howard, 19, farm laborer, Ind, - William, 17, farm laborer, Ind, - Willis, 14, farm laborer, Ind, - George, 12, Ind, - Mary J. 11, Ind, - Edward M, 9, In! d, - John, 6, Ind, and Rosell, 5, Ind. Prior to 1880 no family relationships were shown in the censuses. In the 1880 census for Kosciusko county, Harrison township, page 2, there was a family headed by Howard Provine, 29, a farmer, born in Ind, and included his wife Maggie, 28, keeping house, Ind, his daughter Florence, 7, Ind, his son Henry H, 3, Ind, and his daughter Lavina, 9/12 (born the previous Sept), Ind. Unfortunately the 1890 census was destroyed by fire and is not available for research. As you probably know, by 1900 they were in Kansas, just Howard and Maggie. Hope this helps. Good luck. Don
