Commodore Purvice, third son of Cyrus and Abagail Shadle, was born in Holmes county, Ohio, Sept. 11, 1847, and when two years of age removed with his parents to Wells county, Indiana, where he died October 30, 1895, aged 48 years, 1 month and 19 days. He was united in marriage with Hannah Elizabeth Miller, Jan. 6, 1870, and to this union five children were given, two sons and three daughters, all of whom together with his bereaved wife, survive him. He united with the Eposcopal Methodist church in youth, and February 21, 1895, changed his church membership to the Wesleyan Methodist connection of America, continuing a member there until his decease. The funeral services occurred at his home, the sermon being preached by Rev. G. W. Zike, fro the scripture text, James 4-14, to a large and sympathizing congregation. On Sabbath afternoon previous to his death Rev. Zike asked him if all was clear between him and God, and he replied, "All is clear." The Lord gave him an abundance of patience in his affliction. He remarked to his wife, just before his death, that it would be blessed if they could all go home together. May God's blessings rest upon the bereaved companion and children and sustain them in their loss.
