Peter Gundy was born in Fairfield county, Ohio, December 29, 1831. His parents were Noah and Anna (Line) Gundy, the former a native of Pannsylvania and the latter of Fairfield county, Ohio--both of English descent. He was raised on the farm on which his father was reared, and at the age of twenty-three years began to work for himself, by engaging to work on a farm near Fort Wayne, Ind., by the month. In 1856 he took a trip to Missouri and remained one summer, but returned to Fort Wayne about the first of February following. On the 8th of that month he was married to Miss Mary A. Miller, of Fort Wayne. This union was blessed with six children: Ida A., who died when six years of age; Florence A., Ulysses A., Elizabeth, Sarah C., and an infant who died in infancy unnamed. Mrs. Gundy is a member of the U.B. church. Mr. Gundy enlisted in Co C. 54th Regiment, Ind. Vol. under Capt. L.C. Beckford, and took part in the battle of Vicksburg. He was mustered out in Dec. 1863, and returned home. He served in the army about 14 months, during which time he was in prison about three months. He came to Huntington county in 1861, and settled on the farm where he lived up to the time of his death, which occurred Dec. 25, 1901, at the age of 69 years, 11 months and 26 days. Funeral services will be held on Friday at Otterbein church and interment will be in Woodlawn cemetery, near Warren.
