Jonathan, son of Jacob and Mary L. Foust, was born in Westmoreland county Penn., October 15, 1802. In 1817 he came to Highland county, Ohio, where he was married to Miss Anna Shaffer, April 5, 1824, with whom he lived more than sixty-four years, and was the father of nine children, six sons and three daughters, five sons and two daughters survive. He, with his family, settled in Salamonie township, Huntington county, Indiana, October 9, 1839, so that his citizenship here was more than fifty years, all of which time he merited and received the confidence and esteem of his neighbors as a man of integrity and honest dealing. He united with the German Reformed church nearly seventy years ago. When he came to Indiana, finding no German Reformed organization, and not willing to live without the means of grace, he united with the M.E. church in which he held an acceptable membership nearly fifty years. His long and somewhat eventful life ended in Warren, March 30, 1890, aged 87 years, 5 months and 15 days. Religious services were conducted by Rev. S.H. Swaim at Pleasant Hill. Interment in Batson's cemetery.
