Surnames: BLAIR, HELTON Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/gh.2ADI/4908.1 Message Board Post: Actually none of those 3 are children of James & Jane. These are names of Jane's siblings, John, Elizabeth, & Manley Helton. James & Jane's children were Lydia, Martha, Charles, George, Mary, James, Clarence, Armintha, Minnie, Winnie, William, and Rosella. The first 3 were born by 1860, so it's strange they don't show up in that census.

    1. genealogy.com
    2. Hi all, Just had an unpleasant transaction with genealogy.com and wanted to pass it along if anyone is a subscriber. I got my credit card bill and saw that my subcription had been renewed for another year with no notification to or from me. When I called to have it cancelled and my account credited, I was told that according to the service agreement, I only had 5 days after the billing to cancel. Considering that my bill did not get processed until 15 days after this billing -- I was past the cancelation date. I have now cancelled for next year but cannot get my $99 refunded for this year. Seems like a scam to me -- don't notify people and then charge their credit cards knowing that it will take more than 5 days to reach them. Anyway, buyer beware. IF you have a subscription to this organization and if you are thinking of cancelling it -- DO IT NOW. You will be paid up till the end of your subscription but they won't be able to take advantage of you for another year -- like ! me. At least ancestry.com contacts you about subscribing for another year of service which is how you would think any reputable organization would be. Anyway, learn from my mistakes and take care all Marilyn

    1. Quakers in Hunt from 1887 history book
    2. andrea long
    3. Okay, I was thumbing through the 1887 Huntington County IN History book, and found two different entries on Friends Meetings there. page 603-4 Dallas Township "The Religious History of Dallas dates from a very early day, and among the denominations first represented was that of the Friends or Quakers, a society of which was organized in the northern part of the township, prior to 1844. 'John MOORE, the founder of the "Friends' Meeting" was one of the early pioneers, and was principally instrumental in securing the settlement of a considerable portion of the township by members of that society in an early day.' 'He was a native of North Carolina and moved to Wayne County, Indiana, in 1828, and from thence to this township about the year 1838.' 'He died in 1872, aged nearly eighty-four years." The society thus orgainized soon became quite strong in numbers and influence and in 1844 a house of worship, the first in the township, was erected on land donated by Mr. MOORE. The organization is still kept up, but owing to deaths and removals is not so prosperous as formerly. After the organization of the Friends Church other religious societies were established by the United Brethern: Lutheran, Methodist, Christian abd German Baptist denominations, the last three of which have flourishing churches in Andrews......" Now, this says the Friends meeting was in the northern part of Dallas Twp., Andrews which use to be known as Antioch (page 605) is in the southern part of the Twp, that book I was looking at wrote that Antioch Friends meeting was ?Huntington Co? which it could be the same church or maybe not, certainly will work on this one. When I go to the court house and library next week, hopefully I can get a copy the area plot map for 1845-1872 to see where John Moore lived, this maybe a good lead on this church. Now, jsut because there was no meeting house until 1844 or organizing of a monthly meeting doesn't mean that they were not meeting over the 15 to 20 years before, in each other's homes, which was the old way. same book, page 673-674 Jefferson Twp "....At the village of Pleasant Plains is a society of the Friends Church, which has a substantial membership. A house of worship costing $1,000 was erected in 1870, and the society is reported in a fairly prosperous condition. Among the preaschers have been: Susan RATLIFF, Mrs. BOGUR, and others. All the church organizations in the township have accomplished much good in their respective communities, and the 'high moral tone of the citizens of the township indicates the refining influence exerted by religious instruction.'" this church was mentioned in that book I wrote from the other night. 1. Rush Creek and Lincolnville Friends Meetings
    2. andrea long
    3. Another posting was about LINCOLNVILLE Friends Meeting. I did not find any info on the church as of yet but, I did find the village on streets and trips on Huntington county road 500s which is the same road # in Wasbash County, Lincolnville is about 1/2 mile west of the Huntington County Line. RUSH CREEK Monthly Meeting and it was noted that it was a Hicksite, which was a separation of Friends just like Methodist and Wesleyan's had separated due to a dispute over something, which I am not really knowledgable on, but can ask a friend who is a Friend questions like that if anyone needs to ask any. Rush Creek on the http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnis/MapServer?f_name=Rush+Creek&f_state=IN&f_latlong=404639N0853854W&f_ht=.041325&server=TIGER shows Rush Creek, the Creek itself and and community that is now a part of the Salamonie Res. You should be able to see it on this link. It is right on the county line, about where 350s would be if it ran through that far. I am not sure if the Lillie Library in Richmond has things on Hicksites but more than likely there would be. Niether of the above meetings are in the book I borrowed but in the book are.... Antioch which Is question on being in Huntington Co and no note on when it was laid down. Pleasant Plain which was noted to of been laid down 1904. So does anyone know any more about any of these meetings? Or about any others that might of been in Huntington County? I will do some digging in the next few weeks down in Richmond to see what answers I can find about it.
