They plan to be there Aug 3 - Aug 5, 2005. I've seen the display twice at my local airport and it's definitely worth while for those of a certain age. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Irick, Huffman Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/gh.2ADI/5486 Message Board Post: The Warren Republican,Thursday, October 3, 1901 A Family Sorely Stricken Father and Mother Both Dead George Irick and Wife Pass Away in One Night--Six Children Orphaned. The saddest event that has occurred in any family of this community for many years, if indeed one has ever benn more sorrowful, took place in the Geo. Irick family, near Buckeye, last Tuesday evening, when the mother died, and again in the morning when the father passed away, leaving six children besides many relatives and hosts of friends. Mrs. Irick took sick from typhoid fever about three weeks ago, and less than one week ago Mr. Irick was also taken down with the dangerous disease. Everything possible was done to ward off the fatal attack, but all to no avail, and on Tuesday it was apparent that she could not get well. In the evening, about 8 o'clock, she died, and before that time Mr. Irick's case became hopeless. He was perfectly conscious all the while, and a short time before death inquired if she could live until morning. Afterwards, from movements of attendants, he guessed what his friends had feared to tell him--that his wife had gone--and then he was told to prepare for death also. Calmly he accepted the situation and made arrangements for his departure. The next morning, at 8 o'clock he breathed his last, and two lifeless bodies were lying in the same home. The oldest of the children, a son, is eighteen years of age, and the youngest about one year. There are five boys and one girl, the latter aged twelve years. Funeral services for both husband and wife will take place at the Shaffer church on Friday, at 10 o'clock, and interment of both bodies in one grave will be in Woodlawn cemetery. The Warren Republican, Thursday, October 10, 1901 Obituary Phoebe C., oldest daughter of Frederic and Mary Huffman, was born in Wells county, Indiana, June 16, 1859, and died October 1, 1901, aged 42 years, 3 months and 15 days. She joined the United Brethren church in the year 1879, during a series of meetings conducted by the Rev. Abram Rust, and lived a consistent Christian until called away. Geo. H., son of Joseph and Catharine Irick, was born in Preble county, Ohio, December 21, 1856; died October 2, 1901, aged 44 years, 9 months and 11 days. He, also, joined the United Brethren church on Christmas day, at Zion's church, in the year 1872, and was faithful to the obligations of the Christian life. Mr. Irick was much interested in the cause of education, having taught four terms in the disfrict schools. He was a useful citizen and a potent factor in the great work of the uplifting and the ennobling of mankind. The subjects of the above sketches were united in marriage April 23, 1882, by Rev. Cyrus Smith, who officiated in the last sad rites of funeral and burial services. To this union were born five sons and one daughter, all of whom are living. These children are indeed sadly bereft. George leaves a father, mother, two brothers and three sisters. Phoebe is survived by a father, mother, one brother and two sisters, and a host of relatives and friends to mourn their loss. The attendance at funeral services was the largest ever witnessed in this community, there being 368 carriages in waiting. Rev.Smith preached from the text: "The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death."--I Cor. 15:26. He was assisted by Revs. T.V. Rector and G.E. Floyd.
