    1. Surnames in Huntington
    2. Hi group, Kathy asked me what surnames I was going to work on in Huntington Co so thought I would send to the group in case anyone has already done work on them and I don't try to reinvent the wheel. Let me know if you have any of these surnames so we can compare notes. Take care Marilyn The primary surname was Callison and the girls married into John, Langston, Simon, Rupert, Miller, Flora, Walter, McCombs, and Dustman families Now just have to get my notes together for Vigo, Montgomery, Clay, Fulton, Kosciusko, Whitley and Delaware. Doesn't it sound like we are going to have fun. Have decided to concentrate on court houses in other counties cause the library in Huntington seems the best bet for other research.

    1. Re: INHUNT-D Digest V01 #31
    2. Many, Many thanks to all of you for your help on my upcoming trip to Huntington. Sounds as if a trip to the library will fit in nicely with our plans. Sounds like there are a couple of motels not far from the library and golf courses for Mike. -- and a chinese restaurant. Our only needs for motels are clean and safe. I only heard GOOD THINGS about the library and the staff. I have found most genealogy research libraries and court houses fit this bill but boy you can run into a few who have not the slightest inclination to speak much less help with a few directions. They are definitely in the minority though. So thanks again. I look forward to our trip throughout the courthouses and libraries of Indiana. Take care Marilyn

    1. Research in Huntington
    2. Hello to all, My sister and I are going to drive to Indiana and do a marathon visit of various county court houses. We will probably only have a full day in each county. What is the best place for research in Huntington Co . Where are they located. What are their hours. What is a safe place to stay close to whatever facility we will be doing research at. What are some fun things to do during the day for my brother in law (chauffer). Any public golf courses in the area. What is a good place to eat - home cooking with veggies. Thanks for any help. Looking for Births, marriages, deaths, divorces, wills and if we get time- land records. Sounds like a courthouse visit to me. Are the records assessible or does someone have to get them for you. Take care Marilyn

    3. I am looking for information about Jacob (maybe David) Ruppert (may be spelled with 1 "P") who married a Lydia Threadgall. They had a son named Harry Joseph Ruppert, Sr. who I can find nothing about. He married Alice Beattie. They lived either in Allen county or near Roanoke, IN in Huntington county. I am also wondering where I can find information about Harry's birth. He was born in 1876 near Roanoke, but the birth records only go back to 1882. Would anyone have any information? Thanks. 3. The Huntington Library has an excellent Indiana Room with lots of resources. Not sure about the hours, but it is open 6 days a week. Info: http://www.switchboard.com/bin/cgidir.dll?FUNC=INPROG&C=Library&CID=158&T=Hu ntington+&S=IN&TTL=Location&MEM=1&ACTION=Standard The Health Dept. at the courthouse is usually pretty nice about looking up death records if you have the book and page number handy. Huntington has lots of good restaurants like Applebee's, Bob Evans, many fast food places, a good chinese buffet in the downtown strip. golf courses: http://www.switchboard.com/bin/cgidir.dll?FUNC=INPROG&C=Golf+Courses&CID=71& T=Huntington+&S=IN&TTL=Location&MEM=1&ACTION=Standard if the links above don't work for you, just go to www.switchboard.com and put huntington library in the search thing, or huntington golf courses.
