My mother spent a lot of time with John Custer, her G Grandfather when she was a little girl. She was 14 when he died and he lived very near my mother. with his daughter, Polly Hershberger after Polly Custer died in 1907 My mother was a remarkable woman. She could recite family history, names and dates with out anything being written down. When one of my cousins was in grade school she helped him do a paper -family tree - thing and gave it all from memory. I have studio pictures of John Custer and Polly Berkey and also five of their children. John told mother about his father Frederick and his grandfather John 1731-1812. He said his GGrandfather was Jonathan Custer and his GGGrandfather was Paul Custer and his gggrandmother was Sarah Ball. All history was handed down by mouth and mother said everyone in the family knew these to be true. No question in our family about Paul and Sarah as some books say."

I was at the Goodwill today and picked up a drawing in a frame. It was of a place in Mexico.I took it out of the frame. It was signed on the front by a Marie Hines but when you turned it over it was a greeting card sent by Marie Hines also. There was also another picture slipped in between the cardboard of a place called Mountainbrook Club in Birmingham Alabama. It too was sent and signed as a greeting card. I was wondering how well known this artist was. The drawings are very good. Thanks!
