Sometimes I go down there to take pictures and look for some names but lately I have been working on GOM. I couldn't do all the names in Mount Etna since the stones aren't all readable. If I see any of those names you listed, I will take pictures of those stones.

Do you happen to know who Paul's parents where? My husband's grandmother (Betty J. Lee-Eckert) passed away last year and unfortunatly I think she was the key to the family history. His grandfather Earl has moved to Florida. I did see a post from September 2001 in which a Ann Miller Carr (email mail address is no longer in use)had listed info on Balthasar & Christina Eckert. I was wondering if there was a connection. She also listed the book by Gerald Scher. But finding a copy is like looking for the lost city of atlantis. The book is out of print and the only copies I have found are in the Huntington, Indiana library. I've searched E-Bay and many used book stores online. I am currently trying to compile a list of used book stores in Indiana which may have a copy.

If you can get hold of Gerald Scher's 1970 "Genealogy of Eckert-Karst-Scher & Related Families" it will fill you in with most of the Eckerts. Paul's great-grandmother was Mary Karst-Keefer.

I am looking for information on John W. BAKER and his family. They moved to Huntington Co. from Ohio in 1849. John's first wife (married in Preble Co., OH) was Rebecca REID. They had at least 3 children: Martha, William H., Melissa, and possibly a Rebecca. John's wife Rebecca died 1853-1855. John then married Martha GARRETSON. Their children were John C., Fulton, Alice E., and Margaret. In 1870 John W., was commissioner for Huntington Co. The information I am looking for is a death date & place, and place of burial for Rebecca and John W. Birth dates for the children listed above, marriages for the children any biographical information and land transactions. Any assistance with this information is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Brenda in TX

Hey everyone, just wanted to let you know that at the web-site. http://www.davidrumsey.com/ If you do a search for IN, there are several different years of maps of the state, I never realized how many times Huntington County changed in those first 50 years or so of statehood, anyway, I just ran across a page there in the search results of a drawing of homes in Huntington Co the image (111) is called Andreas, A. T,.... Residence of Jo.... 1876 State Atlas. there are 6 pictures and 5 are of Huntington Co. residence, those being; John Kenower, J.J. Scotton, John Brubaker, John Baley and a picture of the Huntington Court House of the time. They are really neat drawings. Enjoy.
