Surnames: Newkirk, Bell, Graham Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Fi.2ADE/1158 Message Board Post: Looking for information about my g-grandmother's time as a schoolteacher in Swayzee IN. She would have taught there sometime around 1900. Lena Bell was from Warrensburg MO and was educated at the Normal School there. She taught in Swayzee where I believe she met my g-grandfather, John William Herk Newkirk, known to the family as Herk. After their marriage, they lived in Warrensburg, Johnson County, MO. He passed away in the early 1960's and she in the early 1970's in Kansas City MO. What school could it have been where she taught? Does anyone have information of the school?

For those of you who are visiting graves in Howard County on Memorial Day: You could give a great gift to the Howard County researchers if you would take along your video camera, tape recorder or pen & paper and collect the information from the memorial stones/tombstones. You could donate this to the Howard County USGenWeb in memory of those you were visiting. [I am the contact person for that website and can be reached at [email protected] or the above address. ] Another idea, which came from another list and I am going to do: When you shop for those memorial flowers and wreaths for your own loved ones, pick up a couple of $1 bunches of flowers to place on those lonely graves where no flowers are placed? Do it for our fellow researchers who haven't found those graves yet. Do it for the family members who may not be close enough or healthy enough to do it. Do it for those who have long since gone but used to care for the graves. Do it, just because you're a family historian, and care about those who have passed before us. Do it, because it just feels good! Have a happy and safe Memorial Day weekend. Floyd Bailey ========= I do plan on attending the Memorial Day ceremony at the Crown Point cemetery and will continue my tradition of taking pictures of & posting the memorial plaques of our veterans. 2. The last thing I heard about our court house was that you cannot go and do research. You can write and they will answer, but in their own time. They say the records are much too brittle to be handled. They are supposed to be getting everything on line, but who knows when that will be.

    3. Hi Fran Nappanee is in Elkhart County, Indiana. I do know someone who grew up in Nappanee, but it would probably be years after the picture was taken. I'm not sure if Elkhart County has a web site or not. I can check the Elkhart County Historical Society and see what I can find out. You might also try Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness. Maybe someone in Nappanee is connected to that and would be able to help.
