The man I'm interested in was married as noted - his wife died when the children were young - and as far as I know, the kids were raised by their CRARY kin in Florida. William Carroll GIDEON JR. was born 15 Feb 1824 in Hawkins County, Tenneesee. He died 16 Dec 1863 in Christian County, Missouri. He was buried in Christian , Missouri. In the family of Catherine Defenbaugh age 76, her daughter Marry Bettes (or Betters) who appears to be the Mary Defenbaugh who m. William H. Betters 1 May 1850. He died in 1868 and this couple is buried at Crownpoint Cem. Also in this household in 1880 is Laura Betters/Bettes. Under Laura's name is Emma Gause age 5 and Autella Gause age 4. I don't know why they would be listed as boarders instead of daughters, but I surmise that this is the same Laura who married William Gause and later divorced him about 19 Jun 1879. Autella Gause is my husband's great-great-grandmother. I have information on her descendants but am looking for more on her ancestors. Any help appreciated.
