By the 1850 census both were found in Spencer Twp, Harrison Co., IN. By 1860 Etienne had died and Josephine remarried Thomas Mousty. By 1870 Josephine was again widowed. I am trying to find Josephine's maiden name and I'm hoping the 1880 census for Spencer, Harrison, IN might help. She is found as head of household there and also residing with her are two nieces. One niece was Josephine Bigot 7 years old and the other was Millie Vaughn 2 years old. I'm hoping either Bigot or Vaughn might be her family name. In the same 1880 census there was a Joseph Bigot 14 residing with a Henriott family and a Nicholas Bigot also 14, residing with a Taylor family both listed as laborers. There does not seem to be any adult Bigot family present in Spencer, Harrison, IN. Joseph Bigot is living with Felician Henriott who's brother married the son of Jules Simon, Josephine's son. As for the Vaughn name specif! ically from France in the same 1880 census there was a Henry Vaughn born in Indiana but his parents were from France. There was also a John P. Vaughn who was from France and 57 years old. Josphine in 1880 was 53. I'm sure the John P. Vaughn was John Peter Vaughn and the father of Henry. If related he could be a sibling of Josephine. It doesn't explain a niece so young though but I noted that there was a Jules Vaughn 20 years old living with John P. at the time and perhaps the niece referred to is a grand-niece. This same John P. Vaughn lives next door to Felix Varusha, who's sister married Josephine's son Louis Simon. Felix Varusha lives next door to Jules Simon who is another son of Joephine's. Josephine lives next door to Jules Simon. Any help would be very much appreciated. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
