I have just updated my family tree information here on ancestry.com, have a look. There is a lot of conflicting/ unverified information about this John Cadet LaDuke. I have included only information from primary sources (mostly census records). I have found him in the 1820, 1830, 1850, 1860, and 1870 census records all in Harrison County, Indiana. I have also found a marriage record in Floyd County, Indiana. He claims to have been born in the West Indies in every record, but I have seen unverifiable reports that he may have been born in France. The information that I have found in the census records suggest that he may have been Cadet or Caddet LaDuke, he may have adopted the name John later in life. He married twice and had at least 9 children, probably more. He reportedly lived in Pennsylvania before going to Indiana. I have not found anything to prove this, except that census records list his first children as being born there. I also discovered an interesting biographical sketch of his grandson Elliott LaDuke, in an Illinois history book that is in my notes on the GEDCOM I uploaded to ancestry.com. I have been unable to link this John to the several LaDuke/ Leduc, etc lines that came from Canada. I am very interested in finding siblings and parents for John Cadet LaDuke as well as more information on his descendants.
