    3. I bought a book called CAPON VALLEY It's Pioneers and their Descendants 1698 to 1940 Volume II written by Maud Pugh. It tells about some of the families that migrated to Harrison Co., Indiana like the LaFollette, Spaid, Seacrest and the Brill Family. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gerald L Spore" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, August 03, 2004 8:42 AM Subject: [INHARRIS] Shenandoah Co VA > Hi List, > > Does anyone know of a book that discusses the migration of a large number > of families from Shenandoah Co VA to Harrison Co., beginning shortly > after 1800. 2. Are you aware of Wolph's book "The Descendents of Peter Mauck"? Also Daniel Bly "From the Rhine to the Shenandoah" is a good book. Are you related to the Mauck's of Mauckport? There is a great Mauck/Mock research group.

    3. Hi List, Does anyone know of a book that discusses the migration of a large number of families from Shenandoah Co VA to Harrison Co., beginning shortly after 1800. Some, including the Simlers, Lefflers and others came from western PA about the same time. My Mauck, Spore, Hemp families detoured through eastern TN before joining other relatives in Harrison Co. in the 1820's. 3. I am trying to do a genealogy of a different sort. 4-H is 100 years old in Indiana. We are trying to compile a list of 4-H members from the past for our 4-H club. If anyone was a member of the Tic Tac & Sew 4-H Club anytime prior to 2000 under the direction of Bonnie CRECELIUS (dod Jan. 1991) or prior to that under the leadership of John & Roma DAMON (now both deceased). We would like for members to contact [email protected] We realize that many siblings, cousins were a part of the same club & would appreciate your help. Most members were from the New Salisbury, Ramsey or Crandal area. Names that have been brought forth were: Davis, Thomas, Quick, Bays, Stofel, Damon, Crecelius, Kimpel, Rothrock, Chinn, Eberle, Wolfe, Pate, Bement, Muntz, Miller, Martin, Troncin, Harmon, Swarens. If you can help, please respond. Thank you, Lisa Uhl

    1. CANOLES - SPENCER - HIGHFIELD - COOK - STONECIPHER
    2. Janet Zengel Messer
    3. I am trying to learn more about Charles C. CANOLES, a member of my Maryland CANOLES family. Charles was born in 1825 in Baltimore County, Maryland, and probably died in Harrison County, Indiana between 1900 and 1910. Charles was a wanderer, and also had several wives. From what we have been able to put together, he left Maryland in the 1840s, married for the first time in Ohio to Eliza THARP, was in Indiana in 1849 (not sure where), in Iowa from 1852 until 1859, then back to Maryland by 1860. After his first wife (by whom he had 13 children!) left him, he returned to Indiana, and was listed in the 1870 census in Floyd County with a second wife named Susan age 32 born in Ireland. By 1880 he was married to 3rd wife Nancy (SPENCER) KENDALL and was living in Crawford County, Indiana. Apparently Charles married a 4th time sometime in 1883 to a Martha HIGHFIELD/HIGHFILL or Martha OLDEN, and finally, in 1885 to Catharine COOK. By this time he was living in Harrison County, Indiana. He was listed in the 1900 Harrison County census, but had died by the time of the 1910 census. According to census records, Charles' children by his Indiana wives included Mary CANOLES (born c1870), William M. CANOLES (born c1879), John Roscoe CANOLES born 1880, and Laura B. CANOLES (born 1884). John Roscoe married Lillie LINCOLN in Harrison County in 1900, and Laura married John E. STONECIPHER in 1901. I know nothing about the other children. If anyone knows anything about Charles, his wives, or any of his children, I would love to hear from you! Best regards, Janet Zengel Messer Micanopy, Florida

IN Civil War veterans, I am still adding more info. I'm always glad to see notes like yours about your ancestor, William Harvey Franks. I had not found him as a Crawford Co. resident so have not listed him in my book, but you said he was returning from Civil War to Crawford Co. when he died en route. Was the Nancy Franks listed in 1870 census in Sterling Twp. (with children Malinda, Nancy, Eliza and William) his widow? If so,it appears that they moved from KY to Indiana ca 1860-1862 by the birthplace of children, so that explains why I did not pick up on him. I will need to find the unit he served and dates so I can add him to my listing. I hope to publish Crawford Co. IN Veterans, Vol. 1, Civil War later this year.
