I would like to write to the correct Harrison County department to obtain a copy of my ancestor's 1852 citizenship application record. Can someone give me the department and where to write? If not, could someone give me the phone number and I will call and see what has to be done? My ancestor applied to become a citizen in 1852. [email protected] EarthLink Revolves Around You.

If you receive this twice, I apologize. I forgot to turn off my text formatting. Sorry... I would like to know how to obtain a copy of the Citizenship record of Jacob Berst, who might be my second great-grandfather. It is supposed to be on page 24, of Volume 7:1 (winter 1981) Ancestral Trails. The article is"Citizenships 1852, Harrison COunty IN" by Estylle Phillips and Catharine Summers. I wrote to this organization (Ancestral Trails) in 2003 and offered to buy whatever I had to buy -- the book, whatever -- to get this and they sent me back a handwritten note, unsigned, which said, "Not a member." I will become a member if I have to, in order to get the information. I sent them a follow up letter and got no response. There is another family also researching this Jacob Berst. But the e-mail address on Ancestry Com's Harrison County page is several years old. The other researcher is Pam Curtiss Carawan. I would like to exchange information with her. I am hoping that she posts on this list? I tried, but failed, to find a more recent e-mail for her. The Jacob Berst in Harrison COunty, Indiana comes from Beirn, Germany. There was another Jacob Berst from Clermont County, OH. It could very easily be the same man. Thank you, Buffy in Ohio [email protected] EarthLink Revolves Around You.

My records indicate Daniel was born abt 1760-61 in Lancaster County Pennsylvania. His Father, Johann Paul Sipes, moved to Frederick Town, Maryland in 1771 (paid taxes on horse and cow) and about Oct 1787 bought land in Catawba Co, North Carolina. Therefore, Daniel must have been born in Pennsylvania. Paul moved to Maryland about 19 years after arriving in the Penn. Port. That makes Daniel about 11 years old when they arrived in Maryland and his brother Paul would have been a baby. Daniel served in the Revolutionary War having served at the battle of Brandywine, the family then moved to North Carolina. His son, John, was born in Maryland in 1782. Some record states Daniel and Barby were married in North Carolina but I have not found any such record. I do have a theory though not proven, yet. I know that Daniel II (my gggrandfather), John, arrived in Holt Co Mo about 1838. Dan I died in Indiana, Dan II died in Holt Co Mo, Dan III also. John died about 1860 in Missouri, either Holt or Atchison Co can't find date or burial site. About that theory! Someone indicated that Barby's name was Miller. I found that Daniel was executor of an estate of a Henry Miller. I think that maybe Barby was his daughter. I will have to check this further in my papers, but I think Barbara Miller was the widow of this Henry Miller. In that case, Daniel could have married the Widow. This is all just theory on my part but certainly makes a lot of sense to me. About Israel. Are you referring to the son of Daniel (b1761). who married Martha McKinny? I found a Benjamin Israel in the 1930 Holt Co Census, children Claude L, Lillian, Claud J, Calvin D. Do you know these people. Let me know what you think.
