Hi! I have a copy of a deed executed between Thomas R. McKim [Jr.] & wife Margaret and James Adams, both of Harrison County IN. The deed was executed on March 19, 1853. It was delivered to James Adams on May 28, 1853. The land in question was located as follows: SW1/4 of the NE1/4 in sec 12 town 5 south of Range 3 East. Neither Thomas nor his wife Margaret signed their names. At this time, I don't believe there were any family relations between the Adams and McKim families. However, both this Adams family and this McKim family came to Harrison from Nelson County, KY. Possibly there were friendships between the two. Later, James's son Samuel Adams married Sarah Cotner who did have a blood relation with the McKims. Her mother was Elizabeth McKim. James Adams was my 3rd gr grandfather. Thomas Ross McKim Sr. was my 4th gr grandfather. Thomas Ross Jr. would have been an uncle. Robert Schneider

At the time I obtained them they were retreived from the deed books kept in the vault. I also obtained a lot of estate files that way, and they had not been filmed nor had the indexes. These files and books were in bad shape and kept in the vault. The person I had do it for me has since passed away, but if you could hire someone to go in there and look, they would probably find them. The person I hired already worked in that office and did this in her spare time. Hope this helps. Pat Grimm Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. In recent months, I have made great progress by searching circuit and county court records from various counties. I am thinking about searching the LDS microfilms of various court records from Harrison. The LDS microfilms of the Minute books, order books and record books only cover years prior to 1825. Way too early for my Adams family. So I am wondering if anybody out there has searched the Commissioner's Records which run through 1853 and the records of the County Seminary? These were microfilmed by the LDS. If anybody has searched them, can you describe the general contents of the records? Big question--what is the county seminary?!! Thanks! Just a couple of weeks ago, I sent a request for deed copies to the Harrison County Recorder. They were for deeds I had found referenced in the LDS microfilm of the Harrison County deed index. It showed a deal between Leander Adams, et. al., grantee; James W. Adams grantor; dating from May 26, 1877. The recorder couldn't find the deed book! That was interesting because LDS didn't microfilm any deeds from the book. The lack of microfilm of that book pushed me into writing directly. So, as a warning to anyone out there who needs deeds from Book AW3, it's either been lost, burned up, or stolen. It's a real shame.
