I have an old distance relative named Sarah Lula Sappenfield born 1866 Fairdale, Indiana she married Henry J Bye he died by 1930(going by 1930 census he was not with her). I lost track at this point. But in 1885 they sold land to a Jaspar Davis. Maybe she married a Davis after Henry died would have to look up marriage records. Then she died in 1934 at this point just a maybe but looks like fits. Why are you interested? Oh by the say Sarah Lula was born to Levi Sappenfield and Martha Boley they are buried at Sappenfield Cem. Virginia Byerly was my grandfather Thomas Elmer Byerly's full sister. Michael's son, Thomas, was their father, but their mother's name was Lavinia Brock. Virginia's husband and one of her four daughters died during the flu epidemic. Another daughter died from burns. Her dress caught fire from a shovel full of coals they were using to light firecrackers. I never met Aunt Virgie, but knew her surviving daughters Hazel and Ruby. A few years ago shortly before she died, Alice Byerly's son contacted her and subsequently our family. She had never told us that she had a child. It is possible, since she was unmarried, that she was told that her baby died. He was adopted. He tracked down a lot of family history as he searched for his biological roots. He tells us that Michael and his wife are buried in Omaha, NE. If this is correct, it must be the 4th wife. Alice and Edgar's mother's name was Mary Ann Murray. Alice was married to Harry Sloan. They had no children. I find all of this endlessly fascinating. Thanks again for your input. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I just found on Family Search that some one discovered that Michael, son of Michael, was really Charles Michael. The only problem was that they used the birth date of Thomas. About forty years ago, I was given that Paul Byerly was born in Louisville, Kentucky. This led to another Paul Byerly, so I gave up. Back then I did not have a computer, so that led to a lot of LDS library time. I was able to go from Martha Hodgman (1859)/ Andrew Hodgman (1830) / Jane Mitchell (1836)/ David Mitchell (1796) / Isaac Mitchell of the American Revolutionary War. Of Isaac's ten children I have come across five people researching David's siblings. It looks as if you had the hard Byerly to research. Thanks to your information, I have Edgar Byerley born about 1 Dec 1900, and died in Aug 1976. He married Dorothy Julius about 1927. In 1949 they lived in New Albany and Jeffersonville. And Alice born about 1905. To Paul and then to an orphanage. I found a couple of other Alice Byerlys, but they have no connection that I know of. I found a Virginia Byerly who married a David Ellis Godwin. There was no birth date. Her parents were Thomas Byerly and Mary Brock. Could this be your Thomas? I make lots of mistakes; so don't hesitate to correct me. If you look at "Michael Byerley of Bradford" (Re: Michael Byerley of Bradford kdsprunger 28 Aug 2009 11:47AM) you will see the lineage from Michael Byerly (1815)/Paul Byerly (1854)/Mattie (Martha) Hodgman (1859)/Maybelle Byerly (1887)/Maybelle Dimke (1887)/ to Carolyn Dimke. Carolyn Dimke is my wife's mother. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
