It will cost one dollar (plus postage). The guardianship information came from a book called, "Harrison County, Indiana Guardianships, July 1817 to February 1853" compiled by the Hoosier Elm Chapter of the DAR. I don't have much experience in finding guardianship records, but will give it a try if you want. Each record (or page) will cost one dollar. There won't be many pages. The 1836 guardianship record mentioning Casper can be in Probate Order Book C (1829-1839). I'm not exactly certain which probate book contains the 1844 record mentioning the widow Frances Eslinger, possibly Probate Order Book D, the DAR book is unclear. Anyway, I also looked through the book, "Harrison County, Indiana Marriage Affidavits and Consents, 1809-1865" compiled by Walter Beanblossom and found the following three Eslinger records: 1) John M. Armstrong and Elizabeth Eslinger. Age proven by Wiley Eslinger. Marriage affidavit dated August 15, 1836. They appear to have been married that same day. 2) Nimrod Martin and Harriet Eslinger. Age proven by George Austin. Marriage affidavit dated April 6, 1850. "Nimrod Martin" and "Harriet A. Eslinger" were married April 7, 1850. 3) Benj. R. Cummins and Mary Eslinger. Consent of father, Hasper Eslinger given by John Eslinger. Marriage affidavit dated May 2, 1831. "Benj. R. Cummins" and "Mary Eslinger" were married May 2, 1831 by Hays McCallen. Notice that "Hasper Eslinger" must really be "Casper Eslinger. Mary must not have been of age to marry, but her father (through son John) consented for her to marry. Please let me know if you want me to copy the marriage record and guardianship records. The courthouse charges a dollar per page. I will try to go there sometime this week. I would prefer not to copy the marriage affidavits because they are difficult to locate. Jesse Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. Re: [INHARRIS] Casper Eslinger
    2. Casper Eslinger was in the Harrison County Indiana 1830 census listed as "Gasper Esllinger" about the 11th name down on page 146/126 of the actual census, for Morgan Township. Casper Eslinger had at least on land entry in the General Index to Deeds -GRANTEE- 1809-1843 Harrison County, IN as follows: Grantee ESLINGER, Casper from TODD, William warranty [Instrument ] deed dated 13 July 1830 date recorded 8 Nov 1830 Recorded in Vol F page 371 W1/2 NW qrtr, Section 28 Twp 1 Range 4, (8 acres). This GRANTEE INDEX is LDS Family History Library (FHL) microfilm 1404902 (but verify this yourself), item 2 of film. This at least gets you started. I would recommend that you check the index Grantee, and then the Grantor index as well. Once you verify the correct volume and page (i.e., vol F page 371) you can order the correct microfilm and possibly find the court-recorded deed entry. But check the indexes as there may be more entries for Casper. Years ago when I was actively researching this Eslinger line, a contact (with undocumented sources) informed me that Casper was married first to Sally DITTMORE on 20 Jun 1789, Greene County, Tennessee. That may be a lead for you to follow up. He married Francis Austin (who had been previously married and was likely a widow) in Harrison County, Indiana as others have replied to your query. The marriage I found for Casper and Francis was in the typed abstractions from the original manuscript and on FHL microfilm. That typed work is titled "Marraige Register for Harrison County". However, you may find the simple listing for the Eslinger marriage online at such websites as Indiana Trails. Casper Eslinger may have died intestate; I followed the legal process of his estate through the court terms spanning a number of years. THEN, his wife Francis died and her probate with the guardianship of the minor children, run through the court terms for more years. These records are buried throughout several FHL microfilms called Order Books for Harrison County, Indiana. These are not indexed and you have to meticulously, patiently, scan/search each page for the names you are seeking but it can pay off. However, you could also contact the "Frederick Porter Griffin Center for Local History and Genealogy" at the Harrison County, Indiana public library and ask to have their list of probates checked for Casper and/or Francis. If they have them (and they probably do), you can pay for them to print out the probate. I hope something here helps. I have that census record but havent come across the marriage record to his second wife before. So that is new information for me! Thanks. I would like to get a copy of the actual document. I assume I will be able to find it with the film number. Its sad to know he owned slaves; however, his son Adam Eslinger fought for the Union in Cedar County Missouri. I found his son's stone in Missouri and I assumed that would be the last one that I would find. I want to see though if there are any land grant records about where he lived in Harrison County Indiana. Chances are he was buried on the family farm. Even if he had a marker chances are it is gone but there might be a record as to what portion of the land was dedicated to a cemetery. Austin appointed guardian." I assume George Austin is the uncle of the three Eslinger heirs? Anyway, it appears Casper died sometime prior to 1836 and the 1844 record may indicate that Frances Eslinger, the mother, had died. I mentioned in my previous message that a "Francis Eslinger" is listed in the Probate Index, this may be Frances (Austin) Eslinger, but I don't have any dates. Like many early pioneers, his tombstone has probably been destroyed or he never had one. Indiana did not begin to issue death certificates until 1882. I also checked the early inquest records (investigations to suspicious deaths), but found no Eslinger's. I did find a few Eslinger marriages here: http://genealogytrails.com/ind/harrison/marriages-E.html There was a "Casper Eslinger" and "Frances Austin" who were married in 1826. Is this your Casper? Casper Eslinger was enumerated in the 1820 Harrison County, Indiana Census with 20 people in his household, including 10 slaves. The follwoing Eslinger's appear in a partial listing of probate records: Casper Eslinger Elijah Eslinger Francis Eslinger This means that probate records for these three men exist. I did not find any Eslinger's listed in the Index of Wills (1809-1849), but a "Wiley Eslinger" did witness the will of Amos Littell in 1838. Hope this helps. 1. [INHARRIS] Seeking WINDER/WINDERS family & researchers
    2. I would like to connect with researchers and descendants of the Harrison County, Indiana Winder/Winders. There appeared to be two families, one of the Blue River Twp group and the other of Heth Twp. Were the Blue River Twp group related to the Heth Twp group? If so, how. The Blue River Twp group seemed to have Henry Winder as the "elder" of the few WINDERS that appear together in that township. Thus far, my research does not indicate that the two WINDERS groups "interacted". I would like to learn more about this Blue River Twp group and the Heth Twp group. The Heath Twp group were related as siblings and they were as follows: James G. WINDERS who was born abt 1795 Pennsylvania, married first Ruth HARRIS (d/o John) in Hardin Co KY in 1817; married second to Ruth CAHOE of Harrison Co, IN in 1824. Marsham WINDERS (male) born ca1798 in PA or KY and died unmarried in early 1833 Harrison Co, IN Cordelia born ca1801 in KY, married Wm TROTTER in 1824 Harrison Co IN. Samuel WINDERS born ca1804 in Bullitt County, KY David C. WINDERS Elizabeth WINDERS born ca1810 in KY married Peter David COLLEY. Mary "Polly" WINDERS born bet 1811 and 1814 in PA or KY, married James DUNLAP. John WINDERS born ca1815 in KY Rebecca B. WINDERS born ca1817 KY married Frederick O. RIPPERDAN in 1834 Harrison Co IN. The James G WINDERS, Marsham, and Cordelia appear in Harrison Co IN records as early as April 1824 (two marriage records) and Marsham may have been in Harrison County as early as 1823. Who were the parents of these WINDERS siblings? I would also like to connect with a living WINDERS (male) descendant of the Blue River Twp and the Heth Twp groups who would be willing to do a simple DNA test. Thank you very much.
