Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Methodist church. At the request of the deceased, Rev. H. L. Liddle, of Wabash, will conduct the services, assisted by Rev. Fischer and Rev. Wike, Interment will take place in the Dunkard cemetery. Maxine Merrill, daughter of Curtis and Maud (Shaffer) Maker, was born in Cicero, September 18, 1906 and the first few years of her life were passed in different localities, but most of the time she lived in Arcadia. On November 4, 1912 her mother passed into the Great Beyond. For a few years she was deprived of a mother's love until another mother came into the home, who cared for her with tender devotion, especially through her long illness, when she lacked nothing that loving hands could do for her. The term of step sister can hardly be applied to the relationship that existed between her and Edna Shaffer for the love for each other was greater than is often true of sisters. Both sisters were kind to the brother Milo, making a happy family circle. Last October when Maxine was taken sick her chief concern was that she must absent herself from school as a member of the Junior class. All during her confinement to her home she was never without flowers for she was always so appreciative. Possessed of spirit of friendiness with a smile and kind word for all she has won a host of friends. As one lady expressed it "We just could not help but love Maxine." It was during the former pastorate of Rev. Fischer 13 years ago, that Maxine united with the Methodist church and three years ago under Rev. Liddle, she was converted. Maxine leaves to miss her loving presence, her parents, brother Milo, sister Edna, two grandfather, John Shaffer and B.T. Maker and many relatives and friends.
