[Transcribed on January 19, 2008 by RLJ from microfilm of the original newspaper on file in the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library.] Wednesday night, February 21, occurred the death of Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth BOHLEY (nee ENGELBREGT). Grandma BOHLEY, as she was generally known, was born in Germany, February 27, 1811, was united in marriage to Christian BOHLEY, October 5, 1834, came to the state of Ohio in 1837, moved from there to Poland, Clay County, Indiana in 1847, and in 1857 moved to Greene County, where she remained to the time of her death, being some forty-three years. Grandma was the mother of eight children-four sons and four daughters; the husband and father, two daughters and two sons having preceded her into the spirit land. The four still living are Samuel and Henry G. BOHLEY, Mrs. Susan KISLING and Mrs. Sophena HOFEDITZ, all of whom number among the very best people of our community. Since the death of the husband in 1870, Grandma lived with her son, William, the blind man, who was well known all over Greene County up to the time of his death, some five years ago, since then she lived wi! th the daughter Mrs. HOFEDITZ. For more than half a century Grandmama has been a member of the M. E. church, being for many years an active worker in the church. She was an upright, honest, conscientious and every-day Christian lady at all times, and ever ready to testify to the world of her strong hope of a life in the world beyond. Her last sickness was of short duration, lasting only from Monday night until the following Wednesday night, when she died. Funeral services were held at the church at 2 p.m., Friday, Rev. MCCALISTER reading for the scripture lesson Job, 11th chapter, and taking for his text of his discourse the 25th and 26th verses of the 11th chapter of St. John. At the close of the services, Undertaker HUMPHREYS too charge of the remains which were soon laid away in the BOHLEY Cemetery on the old homestead where Grandma spent the most of her days. To know Grandma BOHLEY was to love her. - Link to the 1880 US CENSUS OF GREENE COUNTY, INDIANA, Grant Township enumeration of the Margaret BOHLEY family: http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/Census/household_record.asp?HOUSEHOLD_CODE=1880US_6177593&HOUSEHOLD_SUB=1&frompage=99 Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
