Not related, just trying to help. Didn't find anything on Christopher and Serena. In the 1850 census for Jennings county, Spencer township, page 11, the family was headed by Hanible Hood, 40, a laborer, and included Susan, 39, - Levi, 14, - Elijah, 2, and Virison (?), 9/12. All listed as black and born in Ind. Could not find in 1860. In the 1870 census for Jennings county, Vernon township, page 36, the family was headed by Hannibal Hood, 58, a farmer, born in Ind, and included Susan, 59, keeping house, born in Ky, and Mary, 12, at home, Ind. All listed as Mulatto. In the 1880 census for Jennings county, North Vernon, Dist 137, page 9, the family was headed by Hannibal Hood, 72, laborer, born in Ind and both parents in Ky, and included his wife Susan, 73, keeping house, born in Ky as were both parents, and his son Elija, 30, a barber, born in Ind. Again all listed as Mulatto. I also found a couple of records which indicated he serve in the Indiana Cavalry dur! ing the Civil War. One indicated he was unassigned as a substitute and the other indicated he was a Lieutenant. He also applied for a pension later based on his service. Spelling is as I found it. Hope this helps.
