[Transcribed on January 24, 2008 by RLJ from microfilm of the original newspaper on file in the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library.] Charlotte (OCKERMAN) CHANEY quietly passed away last Monday at her home in Yoder, {Goshen County} Wyoming, having been in declining health for the past several years. She was born in Greene County, Indiana, March 22, 1852, and died April 10, 1939, aged eighty-seven years and nineteen days. She grew to womanhood at the place known as the Daniel BYNUM home near Bloomfield, Indiana. She was united in marriage May 27, 1874, to Ezra CHANEY, and to this union six children were born, all of whom reached maturity. Last year one daughter, Mrs. Gertrude MATTHEWS, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, preceded her in death. While all six children were still small, her husband was accidentally killed, and she was left alone to rear her family in her home which is now the Kenneth OCKERMAN farm. After her children grew to man- and womanhood, and made homes of their own, she spent some time with her two sons, Val and Sam CHANEY, at Linton, Indiana, and Elmer, Max, and two daughters, in the West. She also kept house for her brother after the death of his wife. In 1913 she moved to Wyoming with her daughter, Mrs. CLEMENS, and made her home with her until God called her away. She is survived by five children: Maude CLEMENS, Yoder, Wyoming; Val CHANEY, Linton, Indiana; Sam CHANEY, Linton, Indiana; Max CHANEY, Chehalis, Washington, and Elmer CHANEY, Oswego, Oregon; also by twenty-one grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Ella MILEY, of Petersburg, Indiana. She was a sister of the late J. R. OCKERMAN and David OCKERMAN, and there are many relatives and friends to mourn their loss. - Link to the Obituary of her husband, Ezra Uriah CHANEY [1852IN-1890IN]: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.indiana.counties.greene/2994/mb.ashx - Link to a 1908 Biography of her brother, Joseph Robert OCKERMAN: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.indiana.counties.greene/9799/mb.ashx - Link to the Obituary of her brother, Joseph Robert OCKERMAN [1849IN-1931IN]: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.indiana.counties.greene/3776/mb.ashx - Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
