[Transcribed on January 9, 2008 by RLJ from microfilm of the original newspaper on file in the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library.] Henry JACKSON, the eldest child of George W. and Jane (BOSBURY) JACKSON, was born in London, England, April 11, 1837, his parents starting to America when he was but four weeks old. They were six weeks coming over, the trip being made in the old time sailing vessels. They stopped at Baltimore, Maryland, later going to Dresden, Ohio. They remained there until his father's death, Henry being but five years old. Two years later he was taken into the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank STAFFORD, where he was reared to manhood. He was married to Sarah DAUGHERTY in 1859, moving to Ogle County, Illinois, and remaining there until 1862, when he enlisted in the army in CO H 92nd REGIMENT MOUNTED INFANTRY and served his country until the end of the Civil War. After the war he returned to Coshocton County, Ohio, remaining there until October 1872 when he moved to Greene County, Indiana, buying his late residence from Thomas HARDESTY, who had entered the land from the government. His wife ! died in May 1893, and being alone with no one to comfort him and feeling the need of a companion and helper, he married Miss Anna WELCH of Dresden, Ohio, in June 1894. He was several years his wife's senior. A short time after their marriage he had the misfortune to lose one hand by the accidental discharge of a gun. Throughout the remaining years of his life he received the constant care of a little child by his patient wife. "Uncle Henry," as he was familiarily known, was honest and upright and was respected by his neighbors and friends. And he was a friend to all. Although he passed his four-score mile post he was jolly, always had a cheerful word for old and young, and the little children were often amused by his jokes and pranks. He had been in failing health for sometime, but up to a few days prior to his death he was able to go for his daily papers, which were a great comfort to him in his declining years. He was very much concerned about the great conflict in ! which our county was engaged and often said he wished he could go and help with the victory. He was a life-long Republican, was a great reader and kept posted on the issues of the day. He united with the Latter Day Saints church in 1889 and was true to his faith until his death which occurred January 3, 1919. He was eighty-one years, nine months and twenty-three days old. He was laid to rest at Ashcraft Chapel Sunday, funeral services conducted by Rev. Shannon BAKER. Services were held at the grave by the F. E. & C. U. lodge of which he was a member. The bereaved companion has the sympathy of the entire community. M. E.
