[Transcribed on February 5, 2008 by RLJ from microfilm of the original newspaper on file in the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library.] Mrs. Mary Ann SHEPHERD, eighty-seven years old, and the wife of William G. SHEPHERD, ninety-two-year-old only surviving Civil War Veteran of this community, died at her home north of Bloomfield Monday evening. She died on almost the exact spot where she and Mr. SHEPHERD had spent their entire seventy years of married life. On September 28, they had celebrated their seventieth wedding anniversary and on the following day Mrs. SHEPHERD fell, breaking a hip. She was born in Pennsylvania, but came to Indiana when only a child. Besides the husband she is survived by eight children, Floyd Gentry SHEPHERD, town marshal; Charles SHEPHERD, Mrs. Nannie CORWIN, all of Bloomfield; Mrs. Arrabelle PEARSON, of Columbus; Emery SHEPHERD, of Linton; Mrs. Stella VEST, of Worthington; Elmer SHEPHERD, of Tipton, and Reed, at home. Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at Allen CHAPEL, with Rev. BAILIFF, former pastor of that church, officiating.
