I've searched the web and found many family trees listed that Obediah T. Barker who was born in 1792/3 and died 1849 in New Orleans, LA who was the son of Thomas Barker and Martha Traux and that he married Sarah Cochran and had children: John, Eliza, Elizabeth, Nancy and Tilman. However, I through my research I think that the Obediah who married Sarah Cochran was not the Obediah who's parents were Thomas Barker and Martha Truax. Reasons being in 1850 census record for Taylor Township, Greene County, Indiana there is an Obediah Barker born about 1793 in Kentucky married to a Mary. They have children of their own. The names and dates correspond with earilier census records (1830 & 1840). There are two Obediah Barkers living in Greene County, Indiana in 1840. One Obediah Barker is between the ages of 40 and 50. Making him born around 1790 and 1800. The other Obediah Barker is between the ages of 20 and 30, with 1 female between the ages of 20 and 30. With 1 son under 5 and 2 girls under 5. In the 1850 census we find a Sarah Barker age 34. (Would have been 24 in 1840) with 5 children. 1 son named John aged 14 (would have been 4 years old in 1840) and one daughter named Eliza age 12 (would have been 2 in 1840) which makes it more likely that this family fit in with the Obediah in 1840 who was between 20 and 30. So once again, is there any solid proof that Obediah Barker who married Sarah Cochran was the son of Thomas Barker and Martha Truax and not a grandson or some other relation? Also does anyone know if Thomas and Martha might have had a son named John Barker? Anyone know where the name "Tilman" comes from?
