I have been trying to make this connection also. In checking, I found the family in Shell Rock, Butler, IA in an Iowa state census in 1856, with Martin still single and living at home. Our Martin was already married and living in Texas. First daughter was born 1854. Similarity in names suggest that the families are somehow related. However, looks like we struck out on that one.
